WATERVILLE — The Mid-Maine Technical Center has announced its June celebrities.
A graduate of Waterville Senior High School, Hayden Robinson of Waterville spent two years at Mid-Maine Technical Center learning the precise craft of carpentry. For a profession that requires materials to be cut to exacting standards, and where an error of less than an inch can be disastrous, his meticulous nature is the perfect “fit,” according to a press release from the tech center.

Surrounded by routers, table saws, band saws, drill presses, planers and planers, Robinson delights in bringing harmony to his building projects by following construction plans, carefully considering available materials and having an eye for detail.
Robinson’s pet project was a pine heirloom chest. He was the first student in the program’s history to complete the intricate project, which included assembly using hand-cut dovetails.
Robinson’s hard work in the MMTC classroom led to an eight-week internship at the Duratherm Window Company in Vassalboro, a manufacturer of custom hardwood windows and doors. Robinson spent time on the shop floor, learning from the team and demonstrating his skills in a real-world environment. Robinson applied to Duratherm while still at school and accepted a full-time position.
A candidate inducted into the National Technical Honor Society MMTC in 2022, Robinson was named Student of the Month in the Finish Carpentry program in both years at the MMTC. He is looking forward to building a career at Duratherm and one day traveling the world with his craftsmanship.
Whether behind the camera on photojournalism projects or in front of the camera to promote her educational home, Mid-Maine Technical Center, the unique creativity of 2023 Waterville Senior High School graduate August Shorey shines through.

Vassalboro’s Shorey starred in this year’s promotional video to encourage prospective students to enroll.
“My favorite thing about this program is editing videos and recording voiceovers,” Shorey notes. “Since I enjoy it so much, I think it’s what I do best.”
Organizing and seamlessly weaving clips together, Shorey also enjoys recording the script and experimenting with different twists, drawing on a variety of personalities to determine the right direction for a clip.
Shorey, who was named MMTC Student of the Month in December, plans to attend the University of Maine at Farmington in the fall.
