Since Wednesday, free micro:bits have been delivered to primary schools that have registered for the campaign. To mark the occasion, the micro:bit team visited schools in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales for special assemblies and programming sessions.
Dan TDM, who has almost 28 million followers on social media, was greeted enthusiastically upon his arrival at a primary school in Epping, where he described the micro:bit as “small, powerful and creative”.
Speaking about the impact that learning to code can have on a young person’s future, he said: “It’s important to give children the opportunity to learn to code from a young age as it opens up many possibilities, no matter what what career you want to get into.” ”
He also had some advice for anyone who might be hesitant about learning to code: “If you want to start coding but are maybe a little nervous, try micro:bit.” It makes it very visual and I’m a visual Person. It makes sense to color code and map everything rather than just a wall of text.”
