Martin Brundle’s baffling Miami GP grid walk leaves celebrities and TV viewers equally flummoxed

Perhaps the most sensitive moment, Brundle approached a very tall American athlete and – sure, why not? — thought he must be NFL star and recent Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes, and interrogated him that way. It was actually someone named Paolo Banchero, a basketball player. Big Paolo, it must be said, took it with his 13-foot strides.

A difficult task for Brundle. There seemed to be so few familiar faces; oh how he must have wished he was back at Silverstone, where you’re watching a more familiar saloon ride: your Rory McIlroys, your Ginger Spices, Gordon Ramsay at the absolute outer limits.

Not so Miami. Shared by a common language, they say. A nerve wracking ride. Driving a car at 200 mph must be child’s play by comparison.
