Not here for that. Maren Morris and Cassade Pope spoke out against it Brittany Aldean (née Kerr) made transphobic comments — and celebrities took sides in the feud.
On Jason’s side‘s wife sparked controversy on Aug. 23, 2022 when she shared a beauty tutorial video with a caption that read, “I really want to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I was my tomboy.” -phase went through. I love this girl life✌🏼.” While her husband joked right back – “Lmao!! I’m glad they didn’t because you and I wouldn’t have worked out 😂,” he commented on the clip – Pope and Morris took issue with the vlogger’s comments and didn’t hesitate to clap back.
“You’d think celebs with beauty brands would see the positives in including LGBTQ+ people in their messaging,” the American Idol alum tweeted in response three days later. “But instead we’re hearing someone here comparing their ‘tomboy phase’ to someone looking to make the switch. Really nice.” Pope added that she “stopped a long time ago” following the University of Alabama alum.
Morris didn’t hold back either. “It’s so easy not to be a scumbag? Sell your clip-ins and wrap them up, Insurrection Barbie,” tweeted the Bones artist, who followed up on Pope’s own tweets and referenced the Jan. 6, 2022 riot in the US Capitol.
Brittany doubled down on her comments via Instagram on Aug. 26, calling parents who allow their trans children the transition “one of the worst evils.” She’s also delved into the kids themselves, using her own children with Jason — son Memphis, born December 2017 and daughter Navy, born February 2019 — as an example. “The other day Memphis wanted to be a dinosaur and tomorrow Navy wants to be a cat, they’re kids,” she argued.
The “If I Didn’t Love You” singer defended his wife the following day, specifically citing the Grammy winner’s rebellion. “MY Barbie,” he replied.
Ryan Hurd also entered the fray to praise his own wife.
“Scoring quick points by getting involved with trans kids isn’t brave at all,” the singer-songwriter tweeted, adding, “And I’m proud of Maren for standing up for them.”
In addition to the statements of the two husbands, celebrities like Candace Owens, Brandi Carlile, Jason Isbell and more have responded to the drama and chosen sides in the feud.
