Combining the amenities of a luxury hotel with the intimacy of a private home, the property has become a sought-after city stay for celebrities and upscale clientele alike.
When Michelle Yeoh was in Hollywood for the Oscars earlier this month, the storied Oscar-winning actress chose a similarly storied property for her stay.
Yeoh and her team spent the week at the Mandarin Oriental Residences Beverly Hills, a premier getaway that has quietly become a sought-after city getaway for celebrities and upscale clientele alike. Combining the amenities of a luxury auberge with the intimacy of a private home, the property bills itself as “the best of both worlds,” noting that it offers “all the legendary services of a great hotel without the guests.”
For Yeoh, the Mandarin Oriental Residences has become her second home, as she also hosted the “Everywhere Everywhere All At Once” star during her Oscar residency last year and celebrated her awards season wins at several parties. Yeoh captured the vibe perfectly in a recent post on Instagram, calling the tranquil property “My Oasis in LA.”
Officially opening in December 2022, the Mandarin Oriental Residences are the hotel chain's first branded residences on the West Coast, offering 54 units ranging from one to four bedrooms up to a sprawling two-story penthouse suite – where Yeoh usually resides – complete with a private infinity pool and wraparound patio with postcard views of the Hollywood Hills.

Designed by architects MVE + Partners, the minimalist building is also the first new condo in Beverly Hills in more than a decade and occupies an entire block on Wilshire Boulevard, just steps from Rodeo Drive and its most famous shops (and residents, for that matter). the area, you'll have access to a dedicated stylist at Mandarin Oriental and, thanks to a partnership with the legendary department store, private after-hours shopping at Saks Fifth Avenue across the street.
Residents will also have access to chef Daniel Boulud's first West Coast restaurant, Café Boulud, which is scheduled to open on the ground floor later this spring. For now, the Michelin-starred chef and his team are staying at the residents-only rooftop dining lounge, which offers weekend brunch and weekly happy hours. Boulud's team can also be booked for private meals on-site, where dedicated butlers greet guests with champagne service, followed by tasting menus featuring dishes such as Boulud's signature duo de boeuf and other French favorites.

The feeling of warmth also extends into the interiors, which were led by British design firm 1508 London, which curated a color palette that highlights the high ceilings and sophisticated architecture. Details like marble walls, freestanding Kaldewei bathtubs and custom Molteni kitchens add texture and a touch of opulence to the dreamy, light-filled space. Particularly beautiful: mini Bonsei gardens in selected suites.
In a press release, Mandarin Oriental says the property “seamlessly blends Mandarin Oriental-inspired Asian influences with laid-back Southern California living.”
The Southern California influence is perhaps most evident on the building's rooftop, which features a 40-foot pool, private cabanas, an on-demand spa and private yoga studio, as well as a world-class fitness studio. Amidst lush vegetation and with a 360-degree open-air view, there is a particularly relaxed atmosphere – in keeping with the spirit of the property.
While the Mandarin Oriental Residences and its amenities – which also include a steam room, meeting rooms, a library and a 24-hour concierge – will ultimately be reserved for residents only, the space has hosted a number of high-profile guests in recent months from Yeoh removed.
Just last week, Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing held a private presentation of his Spring/Summer 2024 collection in one of the property's six penthouses, giving guests an up-close and personal look at the couture pieces; Arianna Debose hosted a luncheon in January honoring Eva Longoria's directorial debut film Flamin Hot, attended by Jessica Alba, Julianne Hough and Jeannie Mai, among others; and Salma Hayek and Kristen Stewart hosted a party for Penelope Cruz in December in honor of Cruz's role at Ferrari. The latter two events took place in the Mandarin Oriental Residences rooftop lounge, a light-filled indoor/outdoor space that can be customized for both lavish parties and private appointments.

Units at Mandarin Oriental Residences in Beverly Hills are being sold through SHVO, which also represents Mandarin Oriental Residences Fifth Avenue in New York City. In a press release, SHVO calls the Beverly Hills property a “new paradigm” in both “luxury condo living” and “hotel-inspired living,” adding that the residences “feature the legendary amenities and five-star service of a… Mandarin Oriental.” , with the added security and privacy of a purely residential building.”
While the company has remained tight-lipped about the building's current occupants—discretion is key in this city, after all—representatives point out that the owners include everyone from athletes and entertainers to executives and international travelers attending the Looking for your second home on the West Coast. The building also offers a range of turnkey residences, complete with curated furniture from 1508 London (or B&B Italia, pictured below), Frette linens, Georg Jensen silverware and more.
