A Night Among Stars was a smash hit for Big Brothers and Big Sisters Lacombe and District. The sold-out Dancing with the Stars event raised over $22,000 in donations and donations are still counting.
“I have nothing but amazing things to say about the night. The moment you walk into the room and the design, the layout, just this elevation to the dance competition, I think everyone, from the dancers to the guests, was immersed in another world. It was amazing,” said Brianna Berthiaume, executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters Lacombe and District.
Local “celebrities” were paired with dance professionals from several local studios in the area. The couples included:
- Will Hendrickson and Meagan McGratten (Make Your Mark Dance Studio)
- Wendy Griffin and Arlene Cuff (Rosedale Valley Dance)
- Jeff Pollard and Paighton Smith (Maddox Dance Co.)
- Benjamin Darnell and Tracey McLean (Dance Magic Studio)
- Ben James and Heather Buelow (Dancers Edge Studio)
- Charmen Baron and Mel Fioriello (Illusion School of Dance)
- Darren King and Amber Bolan (Dancers Edge)
Although the dancers were nervous, Berthiaume said that all performed exceptionally well and did not show their nervousness in their performances.
“When I say they did great, they did it from the moment they signed up to be dancers. All these dancers didn’t need much convincing at all. They were willing to champion Big Brothers and Sisters, be mentors, and also affiliate with the Dancers Edge Parent Association. They have raised far more money than I could ever have dreamed of for what we have planned for this event,” said Berthiaume.
Berthiaume says the event could not have taken place without the help of the Dancer’s Edge Parent Association volunteers who helped put on the event.
That night, three dance couples were selected as winners, including:
- Top Fundraiser – Charmen Baron and Mel Fioriello
- Overall Winners – Benjamin Darnell and Tracey McLean
- Fan Favorite – Jeff Pollard and Paighton Smith
The money raised goes to the Big Brothers and Big Sisters Lacombe mentoring programs.
