Christmas is just around the corner and we, Pinoys, are getting ready to turn on our karaoke mode. A Filipino gathering wouldn’t be complete without a friend or family member reciting the song they’ve memorized, right? Sometimes they even know which key number to enter to find the right song without even looking at the songbook. In Pinoy slang, it is their “Pangmalakasan” hit.
Kapamilya stars can definitely relate, as even they have a few karaoke tracks in reserve. In the video they reveal their favorite karaoke anthem.
Spice Girls is absolutely one of the most unbeatable artists in a Pinoy karaoke setting. Whether it’s “Wannabe,” “Stop,” or “Say You’ll Be There,” Karylle has to officially get the party started with every Spice Girls song. The Corrs also treated their fans to some good karaoke numbers. Karylle says she’s a big fan of The Corrs, but her husband Yael Yuzon and It’s showtime Co-host Anne Curtis is an even bigger fan: “So I thought, ‘Okay, I think we have to go back and sing the whole concert at karaoke.'”
Sue Ramirez is also a fan of The Corrs and her favorite karaoke single is “Breathless.” Kaori Oinuma would go for some 90s kiligs like “Sway” by Bic Runga.
It doesn’t matter how tongue-twisting the lyrics of Salbakuta’s “S2pid Luv” may be; Janine Gutierrez had it imprinted in her brain.
Andrea Brillantes says her favorite song at karaoke is “Buwan” by her High school Co-star Juan Karlos Labajo.
We haven’t heard Kaila Estrada sing yet, but her friends and family have often listened to her perform Corrin Bailey Rae’s “Put Your Records On.”
Since the karaoke room is also the best place for emotional relaxation, you might want to choose an Alicia Keys song. Take it from Analain Salvador, who is guilty of channeling her inner “emotional diva” à la Alicia Keys in karaoke sessions.
Marlo Mortel sings Lady Gaga’s “Always Remember Us This Way” so often that he even made it into a cover. His other favorite is Dreams by Fleetwood Mac.
Comedy bar artists like Lassy consider Regine Velasquez their icon and therefore know her songs very well. He also enjoys singing love songs by other artists such as “Doors” by Michael Johnson.
Why not include these hits in your karaoke setlist, Kapamilya?
