When Logan Paul and Bad Bunny made their wrestling debuts in 2022 and 2021, respectively, they received intense opposition from fans who complained about two underdogs taking the places of full-time talent. However, both men have caused a stir with their performances in recent years, so they are no longer considered “celebrity” wrestlers.
Johnny Gargano is among those who have embraced the value that Paul and Bunny bring to the WWE, telling “Battleground Podcast” that he hopes to see more underdogs learn the craft of professional wrestling.
“Both Bad Bunny and Logan Paul grew up big wrestling fans. They’re also very, very athletic, and that helps a lot,” Gargano said, praising Pat McAfee for paving the way for other underdogs. “Pat McAfee – huge, huge, huge wrestling fan, sports nut. Just had such a great attitude. And that’s what matters. If you come into pro wrestling and have a great attitude… . if you really love it, you want to be great at it and you’re athletic. I think those are the three qualities that will really help celebrities and have really helped celebrities. I think these guys have gone above and beyond.”
Gargano then praised the aforementioned men for “setting the bar so high for every other underdog who wanted to make the transition into wrestling.” He particularly praised Paul, also from Cleveland, who won the US championship in Crown Jewel ahead of Rey Mysterio.
“Logan Paul took the US Championship with him everywhere he went, and he brought so many new eyes to this US Championship. Ultimately, he put everything into our sport. He played incredible games. “People don’t want to say it because he’s Logan Paul or whatever, but he absolutely did it.”
