We are at a historic time in the entertainment world and there is still so much up in the air. As early as March 20, 2023, the Writers Guild of America (or WGA) began negotiations and within a month the guild approved their strikes. So much has happened in Hollywood since then, and June 5 marked a turning point. According to ETOnline, the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists union (or SAG-AFTRA) approved a possible strike and then less than a month later, on July 13, joined the strike along with the WGA.

Since the beginning of this strike, many celebrities have expressed their support for the strike and its goal. Before we dive into which celebrities have shown their solidarity, many have wondered: Why are they on strike?
The WGA went on strike after contract negotiations broke down over balance payments to the authors, and SAG-AFTRA joined after the same thing happened. In addition to final payments, they are striking for better working conditions and more.
While a number of big stars have shown their solidarity with the WGA since April, more have joined the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in recent weeks. While many celebrities such as Jennifer Lawrence and Meryl Streep have commented on their stance and left an open letter threatening a strike, according to ETOnline, a host of stars have begun to join the strikes!
