Essex County Council aims to highlight the area’s celebrities and shows such as The Essex Serpent to promote the area’s arts and culture.
A culture strategy was developed over two years following the establishment of a £1.5m arts and culture fund.
The strategy takes into account the “importance of pop culture” and refers to artists, chefs, comedians and influencers.
The council said its goal is to create the conditions for its creative industries to grow and thrive.

In 2022, the Authority established a dedicated film office for Essex with the aim of positioning the county as a focal point for the film and television production industry.

It features examples like musicians Sam Ryder and Olly Murs, athletes like Sir Alastair Cook, acting icons like Dame Maggie Smith, social media influencers from shows like The Only Way Is Essex, as well as other celebrities like chef Jamie Oliver and the comedian Russell listed brand.
According to Councilor Mark Durham, Cabinet Member for Arts, Heritage and Culture, the talent that has emerged from the county demonstrates the “enormous potential that Essex has as a cultural and creative destination”.
