New Delhi, April 21 (IANS): Chaos reigned on Twitter on Friday when Elon Musk finally removed all old verified accounts with blue ticks but allowed some celebrities to keep them.
In India you have to shell out Rs 900 per month (or Rs 9,400 per year) to get Blue Verified status.
With more than 4,000 old verified users saying goodbye to the blue ticks, a few celebrities have been offered a free Twitter Blue subscription “on behalf of Musk.”
“Some I pay personally,” Musk said. “Just William Shatner, LeBron James and Stephen King,” he added.
Stephen King tweeted: “My Twitter account says I’m subscribed to Twitter Blue. I haven’t. My twitter account says I gave a phone number. I haven’t.”
Musk replied, “You’re welcome, namaste.”
The Pope was demoted along with Beyonce, Kim Kardashian and Oprah Winfrey.
Rihanna and Taylor Swift still had blue ticks, but it wasn’t certain if they bought it or Musk allowed them to stay.
“Tomorrow I’ll come to you guys unchecked,” actress Halle Berry tweeted, hinting that she won’t be paying Musk for the blue badge.
Many other NBA players, such as Stephen Curry, Zion Williamson, and Ja Morant, also lost their blue checks.
