According to Vahid Yaminpour, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, none of the top ten characters valued by Iranian youth are Iranian or Muslim.
Without citing any source for his “information,” Yaminpour told Lotfollah Dezhkam, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s deputy in Shiraz province, on Wednesday that many young people were focusing on “Hollywood and European” figures. IRNA, which reported his comments, did not say who Yaminpour named in the top ten, nor exactly what age group he was referring to.
Concerned that “today’s youth spend all their time in the media and family is their next priority,” Yaminpour expressed that “30 percent of young people believe marriage is not for everyone” and that “a significant Part of these young people are girls.”
Yaminpour said that exactly 89.3 percent of Iranian youth use social media, 70 percent of them on Instagram. He called for more work to provide adequate content.
Internet penetration in Iran was 123 percent in January by the Communications Regulatory Authority, a high level for the region, although thousands of websites and major social networks have been blocked by the government for controlling both political and “un-Islamic” content. Almost everyone uses VPN software to bypass censorship.
