Comedian Aries Spears Clowns Lizzo’s Weight, Celebrities Defend Her

Mike Epps called Spears a “slut” for his disrespectful remarks.

Aries Spears is a New Jersey-based stand-up comedian and actor. He is notorious for his role in MADtv, the sketch series that originated in the ’90s. While most people take what comics say with a grain of salt, social media users have been outraged by Spears’ recent comments about a pop phenomenon – Lizzo.

During an interview with The Art of Dialogue, Spears was asked what he thought of Lizzo’s music – but his answer was all about her weight. “I can’t get over the fact that she looks like that shit emoji,” the 47-year-old said. “She has a very pretty face but she keeps showing her body, come on.”

His tirade about her size lasted a good minute, and when it was posted online, it wasn’t long before users were running to Lizzo’s defense. The topic was trending on Twitter for hours. Many people mocked Spears for being out of shape himself, took aim at his comedic skills and praised the “About Damn Time” singer for her talent and physique.

While fans showed their support, a few celebrities also decided to get involved. The Shade Room released the original video which received thousands of comments from its followers. Ari Lennox, a talented DC singer, had her say on the matter. She wrote, “Absolutely disgusting and nasty.”

Another comment came from Mike Epps, a well-known actor and comedian. “He’s a straight forward bitch and needs his friggin’ look at his skin,” the 51-year-old wrote. That wasn’t all, though, he added, “He looks dirty and sick … and hasn’t been on TV since mad tv.”

Aries got wind of all the backlash he was getting and decided to make a statement to his haters – which included Mike. He posted a video explaining himself with the caption, “…when you celebrate sorority, Lizzo’s confidence, while commendable, is also dangerous (MYSELF INCLUDED).”

Addressing Mike, Spears shared, “Yeah, but people don’t leave my shows!
