Chrissy Teigen, Dionne Warwick and other celebrities react to losing the blue check on Twitter

Chrissy Teigen and a host of other celebrities have reacted to the prospect of losing their blue verified ticks from their Twitter accounts.

As of Saturday (April 1), the social media platform is removing the checks from “old verified accounts,” which refer to accounts that received the blue checks before Elon Musk acquired the company in October 2022.

Instead, users who want to keep their blue checks will have to sign up for Twitter Blue, a new subscription service that costs $8 a month. Previously, the blue checks were issued free of charge after Twitter verified the individuals and organizations as active, authentic, and notable accounts of interest.

However, a number of celebrities have indicated they will not pay to maintain their blue checks on the platform.

“Oh my god just tick the box already, who cares,” Teigen tweeted on Friday (March 31).

A few hours later, the model joked, “I’m going to bed with my piebald husband tonight knowing that by morning it’ll all be over.”

When asked if she would “divorce” Legend if he started paying for his blue tick, Teigen replied, “Oh my god, I’m parched just thinking about it.”

Other famous people who have rejected the idea of ​​paying for their verified accounts include Dionne Warwick, Ben Stiller, and LeBron James.

Warwick tweeted: “I don’t pay for a blue check. That money could (and will) go towards my extra hot lattes.”

Meanwhile, Stiller enjoyed a Knicks game on Friday night as he said goodbye to his blue check.

He tweeted, “My last blue check night, love this knick game.”

One follower asked: “No more blue ticks? How do we know you’re the real Ben Stiller?”

The Zoolander star replied: “I have no idea. I will keep my account. I’m not sure what I’m going to do.”

Basketball legend James wrote: “Guess my blue tick will be gone soon because if you know me, I’m not [sic] the five numbers.”

Modern Family star Julie Bowen also said goodbye to her blue check, tweeting: “Last day of my blue check. It was fun Twitter!”

Filmmaker Judd Apatow, meanwhile, declared, “No tick is the new tick.”

Everyone who pays for a Twitter Blue subscription gets access to new tools, including longer tweets, an “edit” feature on posts, and higher priority in the algorithm.

Musk had previously criticized Twitter’s verification program as a “Lords and Peasants” system.
