Marriages are meant to last a lifetime, but many don’t due to several factors. Unsuccessful marriages feature prominently in the entertainment industry worldwide, and Nigeria is no exception. There are a few Nigerian entertainers who have gotten a taste of it, with many moving on with life, preferring to focus on their careers and other things.
Sadiya Gyale
The Kannywood screen diva Sadiya Muhammad, commonly known in the film industry as Sadiya Gyale, said goodbye to the film industry in 2015. However, their marriage put an end to a long line of rumors surrounding her casual friendship with actor Baballe Hayatu. Sadiya Gyale was one of the finest screen divas Kannywood has ever produced. Between 2011 and 2015, the actress was absent from the film industry, only to reappear in 2015 when she declared her intention to marry her lover. Unfortunately, the marriage of the actress lasted barely a month. The actress had evaded the filmmaking scene since the incident.
Fati Muhammad
Actress Fati Muhammed is a household name in Kannywood. She entered the film industry as a mother of one child over two decades ago. She was married to actor Sani Mai Iska, but the union collapsed. She returned to Nigeria, ended her self-imposed exile in England and later remarried Ali Jita’s older brother, the marriage falling apart after a few years.
Asma’u Sani
Asma’u Sani joined Kannywood after a failed marriage and became a household name in the industry for her ability to interpret all of the roles assigned to her as an actress. While making waves in the industry, the actress remarried and left the industry to become a full-time housewife. It was reliably established that the second marriage also failed, and she returned to the film industry. Actress Asma’u Sani is believed to be among the few who got married and rejoined the industry after their broken marriages.
Mercy Aigbe
Actress Mercy Aigbe’s marriage fell apart in 2017. The duo wed in 2013. News broke when the actress took to her social media to speak out after suffering a spate of domestic violence. Estranged husband Lanre also accused Mercy of infidelity. This union is said to have been Mercy’s second marriage, which produced a son. Mercy is now in her third marriage to popular film producer Kazeem Adeoti (Adekaz) and is still growing strongly in the entertainment industry.
Tonto Dikeh and Churchill
Tonto Dikeh and Churchill married in 2015 and the union was blessed with a son. They split in 2017 after several arguments over allegations of domestic violence and extramarital affairs. The actress recently took to Instagram to reveal to the public that she had taken back the car she gave Churchill for his birthday and promised to take everything she ever gave him. Her ex-husband is now married to actress Rosy Meurer. Tonto is still a force to be reckoned with in the entertainment industry.
Damilola Adegbite and Chris Attoh
These Nollywood stars got engaged in 2014 and married in 2015. The union was blessed with a son. The marriage, which lasted two years, fell from what has been called a fairy tale from the start. However, the couple hid their divorce for a while before it became public knowledge. Both have since moved on with life and have done well in their respective fields.
Funke Akindele and Kehinde Almaroof
The actress married film producer Almaroof in 2016. The marriage ended shortly thereafter, the reason being that the producer got another woman pregnant. The actress referenced it in a recent episode of the popular TV series Jenifa’s Diary, in which she said the film’s producer broke the news of their split on social media while she was on a movie set. The actress is now married to rapper and producer JJC Skillz and the union is blessed with twin boys. Funke has made a name for itself in the Nigerian entertainment industry and is getting stronger by the day.
TeeBillz and Tiwa Savage
After a lavish wedding that took place in Dubai in 2013, Tiwa Savage and Teebilz ended their marriage in 2018. Their marital crisis became public in 2016 after Teebilz was seen attempting to commit suicide by attempting to jump from the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.
Teebillz accused his wife, who was still alive, of adultery on social media, among other things, and the two fought a “war of words” there. Tiwa, who has a son together, agreed to a 45-minute video interview to refute the allegations.
Stella Damasus and Daniel Ademinokan
Stella Damasus and her spouse Daniel Ademinokan divorced in 2020. He was her third husband.
Damasus and Ademinokan have been a couple since 2011. They kept their relationship and marriage a secret until 2014. They married and became gospel music preachers who evangelized through music.
Damasus has been married three times and Ademinokan is not her first spouse. In 1999 she married Jaiye Aboderin. Unfortunately, he died in 2004. Damasus remarried in 2007, this time to Emeka Nzeribe. This was one of the shortest celebrity weddings ever, lasting just 7 months.
