You know that rumored list of celebrities banned from Saturday Night Live? Yes, it turns out there’s some truth to that. A number of famous actors, comedians and musical guests have found themselves on the Lorne Micheals ban list for various reasons over the years, some of them really ???? We take a look at the celebs who aren’t allowed near the SNL stage – and the celebs who are said to be banned but actually aren’t!

Oscar winner Adrien Brody hosted SNL in 2003 and inexplicably made an unplanned and abusive impression on musical guest Sean Paul – during which he wore fake dreadlocks. Lorne reportedly banned him as a result, which, yeah.
Chevy pursuit
Chevy was an original member of the SNL cast and has hosted the show countless times. But behind the scenes, his behavior was reportedly pretty lousy, which apparently led to him being banned from Lorne. In 2018, Chevy told the Washington Post that SNL “went downhill” when he left (kay!), so he doesn’t seem that keen on hosting again anyway.

Samuel L Jackson
There were reports that Samuel L. Jackson was banned from SNL for swearing on live television during the sketch that followed. But that’s not true! Apparently, Samuel Lorne ran into Michaels in an elevator recently and asked straight out, “Will you ever let me on the show again?” Lorne replied, “You’re not banned!”

There have been reports that Kanye has been banned from Saturday Night Live for his drama with Pete Davidson, but a Us Weekly source confirmed that is not the case. There are no known plans for Ye to return as a musical guest anytime soon, but he’s clearly not invited.

I mean we all know this story. Sinéad showed up to appear on SNL and tore a photo of the Pope in half.

Martin Lorenz
Martin Lawrence was reportedly banned from SNL in 1994 after his opening monologue strayed from what was written/rehearsed/approved into random reflections on feminine hygiene.
But he has since said he wasn’t banned from SNL, he was merely banned from NBC. As he recently said to Charlemagne the God, “I don’t care. I’m not banned from SNL. They banned me from NBC for a minute back then. But then they realized it wasn’t going the way they had hoped and they sent me an apology letter.”

Apparently, Lorne wasn’t too keen on lighting up DJ Muggs on stage when Cyrpress Hill performed in 1993. But they still have nothing to give.
“I like the fact that we’re banned,” Sen Dog said recently. “The whole ban thing is inherently punk rock. I want to leave it like this. If the guys wanted to do it then we could talk about it or whatever, but I like this idea of being the outlaws not allowed in town.”

Lorne Michaels is clearly not there for people using her SNL platform to protest, as Revolver Magazine reports that Rage Against the Machine was banned after they attempted to hang American flags upside down in protest of host Steve Forbes . The show removed the flags and apparently didn’t let the band play their second song.

Far Out Magazine reports that System of a Down was banned in 2005 for “fuck yeah!” without notifying the manufacturers. Seems pretty mild so… take it with a grain of salt!
