Sandra adopted her son Louis in 2010 before raising and then adopting a second child, Laila, in 2015. During a Red Table Talk interview, Sandra said that when she was first introduced to Louis, she immediately felt it was the right time to adopt.
“When Louis came into my life, he was placed in my arms at 10 days old,” Sandra said. “I just knew and said, ‘This is my way.'”
The actress also spoke about her experiences raising two black children, including how she’s sometimes wished the colors of her skin “matched.”
“To say that I wish our skins matched…sometimes I do. Because then it would be easier for people to approach us,” Sandra said. “I have the same feelings as a woman with brown skin, and it’s her babies. Or a white woman with white babies.”
She then expressed her hopes for the future, saying: “Maybe one day this will go away. Maybe one day we will be able to see with different eyes.”
