What is sex addiction?

According to Healthline, sex addiction is described as a compulsive need to engage in sexual activity to achieve the kind of “fix” that a person with an alcohol use disorder gets from a drink or one with an opiate use disorder from the use of opiates.

Sex addiction should not be confused with other disorders such as pedophilia or bestiality. Sex addiction carries the risk of negatively affecting a person’s physical and mental health, relationships, quality of life, and safety.

What are the symptoms of a sex addiction?

A person with a sex addiction may have chronic, obsessive sexual thoughts and fantasies. You can get preoccupied with having sex, even if it interferes with daily life, productivity, and job performance.

You can have compulsive relationships with multiple partners, including strangers. They may feel guilty after sex and lie to hide their behavior. Here are some celebrities who have battled sex addiction.

Charlie Sheen

Two and a Half Men’s Charlie Sheen has slept with (what he suspected) about 5,000 women, he told Maxim. In 1995, he testified that he spent $53,000 on “sexual services” from sex workers. In 2015, the actor publicly announced that he had been HIV positive for four years.

Jada Pinkett Smith

Jada Pinkett Smith revealed her battle with sex addiction on an episode of Red Table Talk. “When I was younger, I definitely think I had some kind of sex addiction, yes, that sex could fix everything.”

The actress continued, “I’m a binger, and I always have to take care of myself and I can just get obsessed with things. It’s not what you do, but how you deal with it. why are you doing it It’s the behavior that comes with it, because if you want to have a lot of sex, that’s great, but why are you having all this sex? You have to see that.”

Russell brand

In his memoir My Booky Wook, Russell Brand writes about waking up in rehab to a sex addiction that threatened to ruin his career. He wrote, “At one point, about five years ago, I had a harem of about 10 women that I rotated in addition to one-night stands and random chance encounters.”

Kanye West revealed during an interview with Apple Music in 2019, “My dad left out a playboy [when I was] five and it influenced almost every decision I made for the rest of my life. From the age of five until now I’ve had to break the habit and it just comes up openly like it’s okay and I stand up and I’m like, ‘No, it’s not okay.'”

He admitted that when his mother died, “I drowned myself in my addiction… to sex.”
