Celebrity parents have rallied around Alliance of Moms co-founder and former model Kelly McKee Zajfen after she announced the death of her 9-year-old son George on Friday.
Although his cause of death has not been disclosed, George, who has a twin sister Lily, reportedly died unexpectedly.
“My sweet little boy,” Zajfen wrote on Instagram. “My world shattered into a million pieces. I have little ability to breathe. Stroll. Function. Sit. Stand. You were the light of my life. Your smile made the room so bright and your heart was at its most perfect and sweet. You left this earth and left behind so many people who loved you. I don’t know how to continue. how i can function How can I be the light and always have joy, but I will try. Make a lot of effort for your beautiful twin sister. I don’t understand any of it.”
Many sent love and condolences to Zajfen, including actresses Sarah Michelle Gellar, JoAnna Swisher, Odette Annable, Lindsay Price, Bree Turner, Jamie Lynn Sigler, Teresa Palmer, Minka Kelly and Jenna Dewan, among others. It also appears that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, have made a donation to GoFundMe to raise money for George’s funeral arrangements. A $5,000 donation was made by Archie & Lilibet, although confirmation has yet to be received from Scary Mommy. Markle’s ex-husband Trevor Engelson also donated $1,000, making it seem like the former couple may have once been friends with Zajfen and her husband Julian.
“Thank you for my world and tribe lifting me up and pulling me off the ground,” Zajfen concluded her Instagram post. “I can’t do that[out] She. Funeral arrangements are being made and further details will follow.”
Zajfen, 42, founder of clothing line Little Minis, is also a Heart Ambassador for Children’s Hospital of LA (CHLA) as her daughter Lily has a pacemaker to help maintain her heart condition. She’s making a big impression with the Alliance of Moms, a Los Angeles community of philanthropists that supports pregnant and nurturing teens in foster care so they can build a positive future for their families. According to the organization, nearly 60% of young people in LA County are women Foster families experience at least one pregnancy by the age of 19 – and their children are more likely to be placed in foster families themselves. Alliance of Moms is working to change this result.
In honor of George and his “loving heart,” Zajfen has launched a fundraiser for CHLA.
“As a mother, it is debilitating to think about the pain this sudden loss has caused. Kelly, beautiful mother who has ministered to the health of not only your own children but those less fortunate in our community through @allianceofmoms, we surround you with light,” wrote Sophie Dance and Level Up Dance owner J. Sophie Pierce. “I send you the container that keeps falling apart and the strength to put it back together again and again, for Lily and all the children who, since the day I met you, have counted on your heart, your generosity, and your left unselfishness.”
