LLeading lawmakers, top celebrities and other famous faces have descended on Washington DC for the biggest social weekend of the year.
Leading names in and outside of journalism gathered for a weekend of exclusive invitation-only events centered around the annual White House Correspondents Association dinner on Saturday night. This year’s dinner will be chaired by President Joe Biden and comedian Roy Wood Jr.

Notable attendees mingling with government officials and journalists at the black-tie event include WNBA star Brittney Griner, stars of Bravo’s hit reality series Vanderpump Rules, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, NBA star and human rights activist Enes Kanter Freedom, actress Julia Fox, comedian Billy Eichner, music producer Tiësto, Live with Kelly and Mark hosts Kelly Ripa and Marc Consuelous, Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan and model Winnie Harlow.
Saturday night’s dinner is far from the only invite that DC’s elite have been fighting to get their hands on. The weekend, which has become increasingly extravagant over the past decade, now begins on Thursday evening with a series of invitation-only parties.
On Friday night alone there were at least eight big parties thrown by groups ranging from news outlets to talent agencies. Unless you’re a famous face, it’s difficult to get your name on the list for any of them.
VIPs out and about at Friday’s celebrations included First Lady Jill Biden and her daughter Ashley, who joined with Democratic lawmakers like Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) at Elle Women of Impact rubbed elbows at the event, Gayle King at the Google-sponsored Politics & Inclusion Dinner and recently ousted CNN anchor Don Lemon chatting with former colleagues and other A-listers at the United Talent Agency party in Georgetown.
Axios’ LiveNation-sponsored party was as difficult an invitation as Semafor’s, held at founder Justin B. Smith’s home.
Saturday began with the annual White House Correspondents Association garden brunch, which celebrated its 30th anniversary this year. The main observers of the painterly affair were Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA), Senator Chris Coons (D-DE), Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, Mayor of Washington DC Muriel Bowser, Dr. Anthony Fauci, journalist Kara Swisher, President of NBCUniversal Ceser Conde, CNN CEO Chris Licht, Naomi Biden, the President’s granddaughter, and her husband Peter Neal.
A number of news outlets had even organized pre-dinner parties for early Saturday night, including the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post and ABC News. CBS and Politico jointly hosted a similar reception.

However, not all participants were welcome this weekend. Climate change protesters did their best to disrupt the weekend’s main event, blocking traffic outside the Kalorama-based Washington Hilton, where dining has been held for decades, to prevent guests from getting inside.
The protesters were briefly joined by Tennessee state Reps Justin J. Pearson and Justin Jones, the lawmakers who were temporarily barred from the state legislature for protesting gun violence. The two men were guests at the diner and went in after their brief appearance.
