Celebrities pay tribute to Leslie Jordan following his death at 67

Leslie Jordan died unexpectedly on Monday after a tragic car accident at the age of 67.

The actor was known for his memorable work on Will & Grace, American Horror Story and Call Me Kat, as well as his hilarious videos on social media.

Leslie was driving a BMW when it crashed into the side of a building on Cahuenga Boulevard and Romaine Street in Hollywood, according to the Los Angeles Times Monday morning. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A native of Memphis, Tennessee, the 4-foot-11 star was hugely popular for his performance as Beverley Leslie, an enemy of Megan Mullally’s Karen Walker on Will & Grace. He later appeared in the 2017 reboot of the series and starred in 17 episodes.

Many of Leslie’s co-stars and friends paid tribute to the late actor, with Sean Hayes writing: “My heart is broken. Leslie Jordan was one of the funnest people I’ve had the pleasure of working with.

“Everyone who ever met him loved him. There will never be anyone like him. A unique talent with an enormous, caring heart.”

Sharing that he was “devastated” by the news, Erick McCormack wrote: “The funniest and flirtiest Southern gentleman I have ever known. The joy and laughter he brought to each of his #WillandGrace episodes was palpable. About thirty years ago also soon.”

Bros writer and actor Billy Eichner also shared his heartbreak, writing: “Leslie Jordan. what an angel Gone way too soon. RIP.”

Former Wonder Woman star Lynda Carter added, “Leslie Jordan has put a smile on so many faces, especially with his pandemic videos. What an accomplishment to make us all laugh and connect at such difficult times… It feels so cruel that this could happen to such a beautiful soul.”

“No, no, no,” wrote Hannah Waddingham of Ted Lasso. “This news is just appalling. Leslie Jordan. You bless our days. No more than your selfless warmth and humor during the world lockdown. So blessed to be able to tell you personally what you mean to me. I’m so, so sad about this news.”

“I’m so sad to read the news of Leslie Jordan’s death,” said actress Marlee Matlin. “It was such a pleasure working with him on my first TV series, Reasonable Doubts. He was at the peak of his game and had so much to look forward to. He radiated JOY and LAUGHTER. RIP dear Leslie.”

“Rest In Peace Leslie Jordan,” wrote the RuPaul’s Drag Race Twitter account. “Thank you for the countless laughs and for sharing your spirit with us all.”

“I am stunned by the passing of Leslie Jordan, who has inspired us with his many roles on television and film,” wrote George Takei. “The cause of death was a car accident after suffering a medical emergency. Leslie, we are heartbroken at your loss and will miss your cheerfulness and inimitable spirit.”

“Leslie Jordan was as talented and real as they come,” added Glee’s Kevin McHale. “What a ray of sunshine. It’s just awful.”

Queer Eye’s Bobby Berk also shared his heartbreak, writing, “Larger than life, Leslie lit up every room you were lucky enough to have him in.” Rest is power, my friend.”

Many fans also paid tribute online, with one user writing, “You were the light we needed through a dark time. RIP Leslie Jordan.”

“Leslie Jordan was one of the few people who made us laugh during the pandemic. May he rest in peace,” added another.

“I am absolutely heartbroken to hear of the passing of Leslie Jordan. He really was one of the best entertainers on TV and one of the best parts of my lockdown. You will be missed.”
