Celebrities demand release of Jibran Nisar

Prominent Pakistani lawyer and human rights activist Jibran Nasir was “picked up” by a group of unidentified people in Karachi on Thursday evening, his wife and actress Mansha Pasha said in a video message.

Ms Pasha said they were returning home after dinner when a white Vigo vehicle intercepted their car. He said nearly 15 people carrying pistols forcibly took her husband away.

“I want you all to raise your voice and pray that my husband will come back soon,” she concluded.

The development shocked several celebrities as they called for the human rights activist’s immediate release.

Actor Osman Khalid Butt called for his release. Taking to Twitter, he wrote: “May we see you back home soon – and healthy bro.”

Director Shaarmeen Obaid Chinoy also condemned the arrest, writing on her Instagram story, “There is no one left…they silenced everyone.”

The feminist human rights movement Aurat March also called for Jibran Nasir’s release. “We condemn in the strongest terms his abduction (which is a clear violation of civil rights) and call on the government and law enforcement agencies to ensure his immediate and unconditional safe release,” it said on Twitter.

Meanwhile, the group has announced a protest outside the Karachi Press Club at 4pm today.

“Please join us today at 4 p.m. in front of the Karachi Press Club as we join with Jibran’s family and friends to protest for his immediate release,” the group urged people.
