Bella Hadid is standing by Ariana Grande after the singer’s emotional plea on TikTok for people to stop scrutinizing her – and everyone else’s – physical appearance.
The 26-year-old model shared Grande’s video on her Instagram account on Thursday to reiterate Grande’s message.
“You never know what someone is struggling with mentally or physically. illness or depression. sadness or heartbreak. You just don’t know, and you’ll never know until you step into her shoes,” she wrote.
“Instead of unsolicited advice or opinions, judgments or aggression, just try to offer a helping hand and be kind.”
Hadid added that there’s “always a reason” for how people look and feel and “to be soft” because you don’t know what someone’s been through.
“Instagram is not real and we need to look deeper and consciously remember that each of us is just a human being trying our best.”
She ended her post by thanking Grande for starting the “important” conversation that will “help so many.”
“I’m very proud of you,” she said.

What did Ariana Grande say?
In a vulnerable post on TikTok on Tuesday, the 29-year-old “Positions” singer addressed fans who expressed concerns about her thinner figure, telling them that “there are many different ways to look healthy and beautiful” and that her Former Physical Appearance “The unhealthiest version of my body.”
“I took a lot of antidepressants and drank and ate badly and at the lowest point of my life when I looked like what you think I’m healthy,” she said. “But that was indeed not my health.”
Grande reminded her followers that “you never know what someone’s going through” and that they shouldn’t comment on other people’s bodies.
“Be gentle with one another and with yourself,” she said.

Experts agree the body comments should stop
Grande joins a chorus of celebrities, including Adele and Jonah Hill, who have also asked social media followers not to comment on people’s bodies. And experts agree. Here are some reasons they previously told USA TODAY why this exam is harmful:
- Commenting on a person’s weight reinforces the belief that the most important thing about a person is their looks.
- You never know what someone is going through, and there are countless possible medical reasons for weight loss or weight gain.
- Comments, whether they’re skinny or fat, can lead to serious mental health issues like lower self-esteem.
- Your body is nobody’s business.
