The Indian film industry is currently mourning the passing of famed art director and producer Nitin Desai. To pay their last respects, several celebrities including Aamir Khan, Ashutosh Gowariker, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and others attended Nitin Desai’s funeral. Aamir Khan interacted with the media and expressed his sadness at Desai’s death. He also spoke about the low celebrity turnout at the funeral as Nitin Desai worked with several Bollywood celebrities.
Expressing his sadness and shock at the death of Nitin Desai, Aamir told ANI: “This is very shocking news. I can’t understand how that could have happened. I can not believe it. I wish he hadn’t done that and reached out for help.” Instead. But what should we say in such a tragic situation, it’s very difficult to understand what happened. It’s very sad… We lost someone who was very talented.”
Responding to the low celebrity attendance at the funeral, Aamir said: “Shayad kuch log nahi aa paae hoge alag wajah se. I’m sure sabke liye unke dil mein unke liye ek bahut hi khaas jagah hai.” Unki family ko main dhairya rakhne ko kahuga.” (Maybe some people couldn’t attend for some reason. I’m sure he has a special place in everyone’s hearts. I want to send my condolences to his family.)”
For those inexperienced, Nitin Desai was found dead at his studio in Maharashtra’s Raigad district on Wednesday. According to police, his body was found hanging at his ND studio in Karjat, some 80km outside of Mumbai.
Preliminary autopsy results revealed the cause of death remains unclear. “Art Director Nitin Desai’s autopsy was performed by a team of four doctors. According to preliminary findings, the cause of death is attributed to hanging. Further investigations are ongoing,” the police said.
Nitin Desai has acted in many hit films including Slumdog Millionaire, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Bajirao Mastani, Devdas, Jodha Akbar, Once Upon a Time in Mumbai, Dostana, Location Raho Munna Bhai” and “Munnabhai MBBS”. He had won three Filmfare Awards for Best Artistic Direction and four National Film Awards for Best Artistic Direction.
