It’s become something of a joke for celebrities to make cameo appearances as stormtroopers in Star Wars, meaning their face is never seen but they still get the joy of being part of a galaxy far, far away . Prominent Stormtrooper cameo appearances include Tom Hardy, Daniel Craig, Prince William and Prince Harry.
However, not every Star Wars cameo is a stormtrooper, and many wear outlandish costumes and makeup – making them even harder to spot. This can make it even more exciting for viewers to identify the celebrity cameos. Here are some of the best celebrity appearances from non-Stormtrooper stars in Star Wars.
21 George Lucas
As Notluwiski Papanoida in Revenge of the Sith
The creator himself, George Lucas made cameo appearances in all of the Star Wars films. In Star Wars Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, Lucas appeared in the background of the Coruscant Opera House as the Pantoran Baron Notluwiski Papanoida. The character’s background was even explored in an episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
20 John Williams
As Grandma Tres in The Rise of Skywalker.
Legendary composer John Williams, composer of all but one of the Star Wars films, finally made a cameo appearance in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. He played Omar Tres, bartender at the Spice Runner Den on Kijimi (probably killed when the First Order destroyed the planet). The composer announced his retirement earlier this year after the premiere of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

As a resistance fighter in “The Last Jedi.”
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story director Gareth Edwards made a cameo appearance in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Edwards, who is good friends with director Rian Johnson, traded cameos when Johnson appeared in Rogue One. Gareth Edwards is seen in a trench during the Battle of Crait.

As an unknown Imperial in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
While this list doesn’t include Stormtroopers, Rian Johnson was one of the Imperials found in the Death Star’s firing chamber in his cameo in Rogue One. Johnson said the choice was deliberate and therefore could not be edited out of the film. Even though Johnson was an Imperial, he didn’t wear Stormtrooper gear, so he felt it necessary to add to the list.
17 Joseph Gordon Levitt
As Abednedo at Canto Bight
Director Rian Johnson includes his friend Joseph-Gordon Levitt in almost all of his films, mostly in cameo roles, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi was no different. Levitt played Slowen Lo, an Abednedo from Canto Bight who was responsible for Finn and Rose being arrested on the casino planet. The name “Slowen Lo” is a deliberate reference to a Beastie Boys song, which makes this cameo particularly amusing.

As a resistance pilot in Rise of Skywalker
Hamilton star Lin-Manuel Miranda appeared in the victory scene over Ajan Kloss in The Rise of Skywalker. With Miranda’s face on full display, it’s easy to spot him among the partying resistance fighters. Miranda is good friends with director JJ Abrams and explains this special cameo.

As Dannl Phaetons in Attack of the Clones
Star Wars veteran Anthony Daniels is best known for portraying the lovable droid C-3PO, but he appeared in human form in Star Wars Episode II – Attack of the Clones. Daniels is seen at the Outlander Club on Coruscant while Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker hunt for an assassin. It is the only time in Daniels’ many Star Wars appearances that his face is visible.
14 Harry Holland
As Mon Calamari noble in The Mandalorian
Harry Holland, the younger brother of Spider-Man: No Way Home actor Tom Holland, made a cameo appearance in Season 3, Episode 6 of The Mandalorian. The noble of Mon Calamari wanted to elope with a Quarren captain because the two had fallen in love. This is one of the young Holland brother’s few acting gigs, but hopefully he’ll star in something soon.
13 Ed Sheeran
As Engi Golba in The Rise of Skywalker.
Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran’s cameo in The Rise of Skywalker was almost entirely different. Sheeran was originally scheduled to star as a First Order stormtrooper, but after his scene was cut, he was reinvited to play a Didynon explosives specialist named Engi Golgba. Sheeran is seen on the surface of the Steadfast command ship during the Battle of Exegol.
There is footage of Ed Sheeran dressed as a stormtrooper behind the scenes of The Rise of Skywalker, but not in his Engi Golba costume.

Ahmed Best is known for playing the controversial Jar Jar Binks in the prequel trilogy; However, he almost made a cameo appearance alongside C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels in Attack of the Clones. Best has said in interviews that his character Achk Med-Beq is related to his other Star Wars character Jedi Master Kelleran Beq, although a canon relationship has never been established. Given that Beq is now much more important after The Mandalorian season 3, it’s possible this could come into play somehow.

As Unkar Plutt in The Force Awakens.
British comedian Simon Pegg was dressed in a pretty big costume for his cameo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Pegg played Unkar Plutt, the junk boss who traded metal scraps for food with Rey on Jakku. Pegg is good friends with JJ Abrams and has made cameo appearances in some of his other films, so it’s no surprise that he also appeared in Star Wars.
10 Lizzo
As the Duchess in The Mandalorian
Singer Lizzo appeared in Season 3, Episode 6 of The Mandalorian as the Duchess of Plazir-15. After the fall of the Empire, the planet’s ruler married a former Imperial Captain Bombardier, played by Jack Black. The Duchess grants Grogu the rank of knight, although this seemed to be only a symbolic gesture.

As Captain Bombardier in The Mandalorian
Season 3, Episode 6 of The Mandalorian was packed with celebrity cameos, with Jack Black as ex-Imperial Captain Bombardier. The captain had gone through the New Republic’s amnesty program and reformed himself to live happily with his wife, the Duchess, on Plaxir-15. Black was his usual goofy self, which fit well with his over-the-top character.
8th Dave Filoni
As Trapper Wolfe in The Mandalorian
Dave Filoni, George Lucas’s apprentice, really left his mark on Star Wars, producing all of the shows set during the Star Wars New Republic era. Anyone familiar with Filoni will know that he was obsessed with wolves, making them an important aspect of Star Wars Rebels. Filoni continued the tradition by naming his New Republic pilot Trapper Wolfe. Dave Filoni made four appearances as Wolfemost recently in season 3 of The Mandalorian.
7 Deborah Chow
As Sash Ketter in The Mandalorian
Canadian director Deborah Chow is perhaps best known for directing two episodes of the first season of The Mandalorian and all six episodes of the Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries. Like other “The Mandalorian” directors, Chow had a cameo appearance as a “New Republic” pilot. Chow’s Sash Ketter has appeared in two episodes, most recently in the third season of The Mandalorian.
6 Rick Famuyiwa
As Jib Dodger in The Mandalorian
Rounding out Dave Filoni’s merry band of directors and pilots is Rick Famuyiwa. Famuyiwa has directed an astounding seven episodes of The Mandalorian and has been hired as executive producer of the series’ third season alongside Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau. Famuyiwa has brought New Republic pilot Jib Dodger to life twice – once in Season 1 of The Mandalorian and most recently in Season 3.
5 Matt Lanter
As Lant Davan in The Mandalorian
While Matt Lanter may be more famous in the hearts and minds of Star Wars fans for portraying Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, he is also an accomplished live-action actor. Lanter has had leading roles on shows such as 90210 and the short-lived NBC series Timeless. In The Mandalorian Season 1, Episode 6, Lanter portrayed New Republic correctional officer Lant Davan, who was unfortunately killed by the Twi’lek Xi’an.
4 Christopher Lloyd
As Helgait in The Mandalorian
Legendary actor Christopher Lloyd may be best known for portraying Doc Brown in the Back to the Future films, but he made a memorable cameo in Season 3, Episode 6 of The Mandalorian. Helgait was the head of security on Plazir-15, although Din Djarin and Bo-Katan Kryze later revealed that he was a Separatist still loyal to Count Dooku despite the death of the Sith some 30 years ago.
3 John Leguizamo
As gangster Gor Koresh
John Leguizamo appeared in Season 2, Episode 1 of The Mandalorian as gangster Gor Koresh. He was the Abyssinian who ran the underground gladiator fights and tried to betray Din Djarin. It is worth noting that Leguizamo only voiced the character and did not physically portray him.

Clancy Brown has appeared many times in Star Wars, but in live action he appeared in Season 1, Episode 6 of The Mandalorian as the Devaronian prisoner Burg. Most recently, Brown transformed his character Ryder Azadi from animation to live-action when he appeared in episode 1 of Ahsoka. Not only was Brown’s booming voice welcome, it was exciting to see another voice actor bring his character to life.
