CRACKED BEN STEIN USED A Pseudonym TO ROAST JOAN RIVERS. In 1987, under the pen name Bert Hacker, Ben Stein wrote a hit about Joan Rivers in Gentlemen's Quarterly magazine. She sued the magazine and hackers for $50 million, but dropped the lawsuit and let Stein donate to the charities of her choosing.

From what we’ve gathered, it appears celebrity pseudonyms are used for one of three reasons. The first was a shadowy, mysterious burn that could bring someone to court when the true author is exposed. The second was to see if her work could be successful without affixing her already popular name. That’s pretty commendable. It begs the question, “Do you like this because it happens to be a good song, or do you like all the followers because I’m famous?” And third, some artists are bursting with ideas, and those ideas don’t all fit into theirs “Brand”.

Makes total sense. It would be strange if JK Rowling suddenly came out with an ex-military crime thriller. We’d all be reading along, wondering where the brooms and Nerds with lightning scars Are. Speaking of which, a Kenny Rogers-esque love song by Prince would be pretty weird too. But who should we judge? Express love however you want, using any name (or symbol)! CRACKED JK ROWLING WROTE AN EX-MILITARY CRISIS NOVEL AS A MAN. She wrote the critically and commercially successful novel The Cuckoo's Calling as Robert Galbraith, and her attorney was fined for spilling the beans. She chose Robert because of her hero, Robert F. Kennedy.
