10 Celebrities Who Openly Embrace Their LGBTQ Identity

In the postmillennial era, there is growing awareness of the rights of people who do not want to conform to the conventional norms of sexuality and gender identity in society.

Partly due to the influence of the internet, more and more people around the world are able to connect with one another, speak more freely and openly about their sexuality, and identify as LGBTQIA+.

Many countries have promptly recognized LGBTQIA+ rights and legalized same-sex marriage, marking a significant development in the global human rights movement. Several celebrities who are straight themselves are actively supporting LGBTQIA+ rights, demonstrating the growing acceptance of the movement in society.

However, despite all of this, there is still significant stigma, discrimination and violence against the LGBTQIA+ community around the world.

In this article, let’s look at some celebrities who openly identify as LGBTQIA+ and are vocal and proud of their gender identity and sexuality.

1. Miley Cyrus

Often seen as a prominent icon in the LGBTQ+ community, Miley Cyrus has dubbed herself Gender Fluid, a term used to express non-identification with rigid binary genders.

She is an avid advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and the founder of the Happy Hippie Foundation, an organization dedicated to the well-being of the LGBTQ+ community.

2. Elliot page

Elliot Page, the ‘Umbrella Academy’ actor who was AFAB (Assigned Female at Birth) has been open about being queer and trans and has been vocal about his gender identity.

In a letter shared on Twitter, he revealed his preferred name and pronoun (he, his) and expressed his “overwhelming gratitude” to those who had supported him on his transition journey.

He mentioned that it’s remarkable to finally accept and love who he really is and to pursue his authentic self.

3. Tim Cook

Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple Inc., has openly stated that he is proud to be gay and that it was one of the greatest gifts God gave him.

He has also mentioned that he felt compelled to be open about his sexuality and hoped that his openness as a businessman and young influencer could help LGBTQ+ youth overcome the issues of homelessness, despair, etc.

4. Lady Gaga

Pop icon Lady Gaga has identified as bisexual, although there has been allegation that she falsely claims so to appease her huge LGBTQ+ fan base.

But she’s promptly responded to accusations that it’s not a lie that she’s bisexual and that she’s into women and that’s what she “always” was and always has been.

She has been active in a range of LGBTQ+ rights causes and founded her own organization, Born This Way Foundation, to support the causes.

5.Angelina Jolie

Actress Angelina Jolie is a longtime supporter of LGBTQ+ rights and has stated that she is bisexual. In 2003, she said that if she fell in love with a woman, she would want to “kiss and touch her” badly, and that she did, in fact, fall in love with a woman when she was 20. She said she was open about her bisexuality because she really wanted people to know she was dating a woman.

6.Billie Joe Armstrong

Billie Joe Armstrong, the singer and lead guitarist for the rock band Green Day, has been open about his bisexuality. He mentioned that he has always been bisexual and that bisexuality is something people are born with.

He explained that it’s a society that tricks people into believing that bisexuality is bad when it’s actually a “very beautiful thing”.

7. Kristen Stewart

Kristen Stewart, the popular “Twilight” actress, revealed in 2017 that she was bisexual. She said there is no confusion about someone knowing they are bisexual and for her there is no confusion at all and it’s actually the opposite.

She also mentioned that she is fortunate to live at this time in history and that children of today’s age find it comparatively easy to comfortably identify with their sexuality.

8. Kristian Nairn

Game of Thrones actor Kristian Nairn, who played the character Hodor on the show, said he’s been openly gay his entire life. He said he never tried to hide his sexual identity and always waited for any interviewer to ask him about it.

9.Gillian Anderson

X-Files actress Gillian Anderson mentioned in 2015 that she has had homosexual relationships in the past. She also stated that she’s open to doing it again and that this relationship is about loving another human being whose gender is irrelevant.

10.Victor Garber

Actor Victor Garber confirmed he was gay in 2013, but mentioned that he’s never actually hidden his sexuality and his 20-year relationship with partner Rainer Andreesen, whom he married in 2015.
