Mariah Carey to Lil Nas X

Mariah Carey wants to extend her dominance this Christmas by conquering the book charts.

Fresh from another successful Christmas season, in which her 1994 hit All I Want for Christmas is You topped the US Billboard Hot 100 charts, the singer is releasing her first children’s book.

Written with Michaela Angela Davis, The Christmas Princess will appear in the fall, according to Henry Holt.

The plot is based on the experience of Little Mariah, a lonely child who “discovers the healing power of her voice to spread the Christmas spirit at home and around the world”.

Carey said the story was inspired by her own childhood experiences.

“Little Mariah represents my inner child who believes in her own vision, she represents all children, especially those who feel like outsiders or ‘others’ and strive to believe in themselves,” she posted on Instagram.

“It was empowering to turn my childhood turbulence into a modern classic fairy tale full of wonder and boundless hope.”

Carey joins a growing number of celebrities who publish books for children and teenagers.

Here are five others who have put their talents on the side.

1. Serena Williams

Inspired by the tender moments she shared with her daughter, the tennis great announced her literary debut with Adventures of Qai Qai in December 2021.

In the picture bookstore, which will be published in September 2022 and named after her daughter’s favorite doll, Baby Girl goes on an adventure that will teach her the importance of self-confidence.

2. Jimmy Fallon

The TV presenter’s foray into children’s literature was spurred on by a small, friendly competition at home.

Fallon wrote his first book, Your Baby’s First Word Will Be Dada, in 2015 to ensure that his child’s first words were actually “Dada”.

The 2017 sequel, Everything is Mama, came about as a result of what happened after that.

“Her second, third, and fourth words were ‘mom,'” he told People. “If you have a 3 year old they will love the pictures. And if you have a 1 year old they will love the way it tastes.”

3. Kelly Clarkson

The singer made her daughter River Rose the star of her books.

In 2017, Clarkson released River Rose and the Magical Christmas, in which the main character visits Santa Claus at the North Pole.

The 2016 predecessor, River Rose and the Magical Lullaby, included an online link to a story-inspired Clarkson song.

4. Kevin Hart

As further proof that he’s one of the hardest working people in show business, the comedian and movie star also had time to get a book out in 2021.

The illustrated novel Marcus Makes a Movie follows a young student who turns the superhero drawings in his notepad into a movie with his classmates, teachers, and a local bully.

5. Lil Nas X

The rapper’s first book, last year’s C stands for Country, is partly inspired by the success of his hit single Old Town Road.

The plot shows a young black cowboy and the faithful horse Panini riding through a winding path shaped according to all alphabets.
