Jackson County’s ecotourism is improving the economy

JACKSON COUNTY, Florida (WJHG / WECP) – Jackson County is home to a variety of outdoor activities and adventures that attract more than just tourists.

With over 1,000 acres of public land and nine bodies of water, there’s no shortage of activities in Jackson County. Anyone looking for fishing, hiking, biking, camping, kayaking, boating, or diving will find it in Jackson County.

In one of Marianna’s several public parks, Citizen’s Lodge, kids can even dip their sticks in the water and catch them and let go.

Those who come to spend time outdoors benefit from Jackson County as a whole.

“People will come from all over the state and spend their time here in Jackson County,” said Christy Andreasen, executive director of Jackson County’s Tourism Development Council. “When they’re out in the sun, they’ll eventually want to go somewhere to cool off. It usually goes to our restaurants, our stores, spending money, which brings money to the local economy. “
