The organization added a U.S. flag and a goat emoji, representing the greatest of all time, recognizing Llyod’s remarkable skills in the sport.

Most recently, she won a bronze medal with team members at the Tokyo Olympics. But her decorated career spanned decades.

An article on the National Women’s Soccer League website quoted a statement from Lloyd about her resignation.

“Ending my career knowing that my family can be by my side and share this final chapter with me couldn’t have been more special,” said Lloyd. β€œWe’ll all spend a lot more time together now, especially with my husband Brian, who has been my rock and my biggest support system all these years. We are both looking forward to starting this next chapter of our lives without my daily training and gaming routine, but I will most likely need another way to stay competitive! Maybe this will be golf? “

The site also noted her longevity in the sport, writing that Lloyd’s “ability to play at the highest levels into her late 30s was unparalleled”.
