What is Dogechain? Dogecoin meets NFTs, gaming and DeFi

Dogecoin exploded with great publicity last year, helped in no small part by support from Elon Musk on Twitter. The meme cryptocurrency really caught the public’s attention, hitting new all-time highs at its peak.

Dogecoin was introduced to the public in 2014 and has become one of the most popular cryptocurrencies alongside Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Now there is a new blockchain called Dogechain, built by Dogecoin holders for Dogecoin holders, which aims to make a splash.

What is Dogechain?

The Dogecoin community started to grow exponentially, however, the $DOGE cryptocurrency has a single use case, which is to be accepted as a means of payment for exchanging goods and services online.

Lacking smart contract functionality, Dogecoin users cannot readily use their tokens in games, DeFi, or NFTs.

That is Dogecoin’s unfortunate shortcoming as blockchain technology increasingly promises extensive utility through smart contracts. Dogechain was designed to fix this.

Dogechain brings crypto applications like NFTs, gaming and DeFi to the $Dogecoin community.

Dogechain is a new EVM-compatible blockchain that aims to complement the original Dogecoin cryptocurrency. Dogechain wants to bring real benefit to Dogecoin.

The chain exists 100% independently of the Dogecoin blockchain. It is an independent polygon boundary chain that uses wrapped Doge as the gas. Dogechain does not compete with Dogecoin, but complements it and adds additional utility.

Simply put, the chain was created to provide $Dogecoin users with crypto applications such as NFTs, gaming, and the ever-growing DeFi ecosystem.

Dogechain: The functions

As mentioned, Dogechain relies on the Polygon Edge framework to build its EVM-compatible blockchain. This allows Dogechain to be compatible with dApps deployed on Ethereum.

Additionally, EVM is at the heart of the Ethereum blockchain and plays a crucial role in the creation of dApps. It also allows developers to build and deploy solutions and protocols much faster.

In addition, Dogechain has the ability to improve the Web3 ecosystem by making the most popular memecoin useful. It promises to increase retail adoption due to Dogecoin’s popularity among retail holders by creating a thriving ecosystem of dApps. The popularity of the blockchain should also increase demand for Dogechain’s native cryptocurrency, the $DC token.

With its capacity for high throughput and decentralization, token users will not suffer from concerns like other PoW tokens such as: B. low transactions per second, public chain congestion, centralized mining and high transaction fees.

PoS for the Doge ecosystem

Dogechain relies on a predefined number of validators to facilitate its Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, a setup that results in shorter block times and lower fees.

In PoS, users with the highest number of tokens are allowed to become validators and produce blocks.

The chain therefore also uses slashing scenarios, resulting in security, decentralization, reliability, transparency, stability and block finality.

Dogechain and the Dogecoin blockchain have a symbiotic relationship. This allows users to lock their Dogecoin on the cross-chain protocol and receive $wDOGE on the Dogechain blockchain.

Users can then use these $wDOGE tokens to deploy and interact with smart contracts, pay transaction fees, and participate in Dogechain governance. Conversely, they can destroy $wDOGE and reclaim their native Dogecoins straight to their wallets.

Core features of Dogechain

Dogechain consists of 4 key principles, including:

  • IBFT Proof of Stake (PoS) Consensus allows users to participate in the network to ensure a permissionless and decentralized blockchain.
  • EVM compatibleallowing existing Ethereum smart contracts to be easily migrated to Dogechain without the need for any further modifications.
  • Decentralized Governancemeaning that community members or token holders can make suggestions, delegate, vote on the blockchain parameters and events, and influence governance decisions.
  • Cross-chain compatibility makes Dogecoin easily usable on the Dogechain network by enclosing the Dogecoin via the Dogechain bridge and sending it back to the Dogecoin network when needed.

Dogechain’s goals

Dogechain’s main goal is to expand Dogecoin’s use cases. To achieve this, Dogecoin users can wrap their $DOGE in Dogechain smart contracts and receive $wDOGE tokens in return.

$wDOGE tokens live on the Dogechain blockchain, which allows users to access an ecosystem of DeFi products, NFTs, and GameFi.

As a result, it can be seen that $DOGE holders can participate in the NFT market by minting and trading NFTs, paying for gas with $DOGE, participating in GameFi opportunities, and engaging with the growing blockchain gaming community.

Users can also trade tokens and speculate on their value on decentralized exchanges or access advanced financial tools such as staking, lending, borrowing and liquidity mining.

Additionally, by holding $DOGE, users can participate in the upcoming Metaverse revolution through Dogechain-powered NFTs or DAOs and many more.

How does Dogechain work?

The $DC token is the native currency of the Dogechain network. The token will be used for governance, staking incentives and eventually gas on Dogechain.

There are two ways to pay transaction fees on Dogechain including $wDOGE and $DC. Any account that passes community authority and authentication is allowed to join the validator set.

Staking is headed to Dogechain for $DC holders to stake their $DC tokens and earn rewards.

There is no re-minted block reward for block production and all transaction fees are valued in either $wDOGE or $DC.

VE model

DogeChain features a vesting and earning system based on Curve’s veCRV mechanism, $veDC, to allow users to lock their $DC for up to 4 years to reward an exponential amount of $veDC earn.

However, $veDC is not a transferable token and therefore cannot be traded in liquid markets. It is more like an account-based points system that indicates the vesting duration of the wallet’s locked $veDC tokens within the protocol.

Each $veDC has 1 vote in governance. Wagering 1 $DC token for the maximum time of 4 years would generate 4 $veDC. You can also exchange your $veDC tokens for $DC tokens once the lock-up period is over.

Note that $veDC is non-transferrable and each account can only have a single lock period, meaning a single address cannot lock $DC tokens for different time periods.

As said, $veDC tokens cannot be sold or transferred. However, users can use it to earn an additional airdrop of $DC tokens, vote on how the protocol awards developer grants, and earn random prizes or lottery rewards.

In addition, $veDC tokens also serve as a network validator. Therefore, a certain number of veDC tokens are required from all validators.

The veDC model is also an integral part of Dogechain’s staking mechanism. Users must lock DC to get veDC, which can then be stacked with the validator of their choice.

Dogechain: opening up the ecosystem

It is easy to see that Dogechain opens up many opportunities in the blockchain space for the $DOGE community through a variety of potential applications.

Dogechain will allow its users to publish their own NFTs, therefore Dogechain NFT owners can integrate their NFTs into the existing NFT landscape.

As an EVM-compatible blockchain, Dogechain integrates seamlessly with other DeFi protocols such as Uniswap and SushiSwap.

Meanwhile, $wDOGE and $DC are DeFi-enabled cryptocurrencies that can be locked into different liquidity pools and offer rewards to their holders. You can also use them as collateral on decentralized lending platforms.

The Dogechain BridgeThe Dogechain Bridge

Polygon Edge architecture Layer 2 solutions will also allow Dogechain to improve their existing transaction speeds in DeFi and address some privacy concerns.

Developers can build entire virtual worlds and blockchain games on top of Dogechain’s smart contract framework. It also means $wDOGE and $DC holders can participate in virtual game economies and share digital assets in their favorite metaverses.

To date, Dogechain has already processed 30 million transactions, with around 2 million plus per day. (See Dogechain’s Mainnet Explorer for the latest stats).

In addition, more than 232,000 wallets have been created and have bridged over $300 million DOGE on chain.
