Market analysts have recently observed a notable pattern on the Bitcoin price chart that may indicate a shift in the market trend. Jake Wujastyk, a well-known market analyst, has particularly pointed out the emergence of an inverted head and shoulders pattern on Bitcoin's daily candlestick chart.
This pattern, coupled with Bitcoin closing above a significant “volume level,” signals an impending uptrend for Bitcoin.
Bitcoin rise on the horizon
In technical analysis, an inverted head and shoulders pattern is traditionally interpreted as a bullish signal. It is characterized by two lower peaks (shoulders) on either side of a valley (head) far below. The completion of this pattern occurs when the price breaks the resistance level, the so-called “neckline”.
In the case of Bitcoin, this neck line also coincides with a “volume shelf,” as Wujastyk states, a price level at which many contracts have previously traded, indicating strong support or resistance.

With Bitcoin price currently above the critical $43,000 level and up 4.7% over the past week, this indicates growing momentum among buyers, indicating a possible uptrend. At the time of writing, Bitcoin saw a 2.1% price increase in the last 24 hours to $43,144.

This price movement comes amid fluctuating daily trading volumes, which have dropped from over $25 billion to under $20 billion in a day.
The occurrence of this pattern is particularly notable as Bitcoin options are about to expire and 22,000 BTC options are nearing their expiration date. These options have a put-call ratio of 0.66, a maxpain point of $42,000 and a notional value of $960 million, according to data from Greekslive.
For comparison, the put-call ratio is an important indicator in options trading and represents the number of put options relative to call options. A lower ratio indicates bullish sentiment as it indicates that more call options are available. Options (bets on a rising price) are traded as put options (bets on a falling price).
Market trends and BTC halving expectation
The broader crypto market, including Ethereum (ETH) options, is also nearing expiry. 230,000 ETH options expire with a put-call ratio of 0.33, a maxpain point of $2,300, and a notional value of $530 million. These numbers suggest a more optimistic outlook for Ethereum compared to Bitcoin.
Additionally, according to GreekLive, the market has seen subdued activity recently, with both realized volatility (RV) and implied volatility (IV) trending downward across major cryptocurrencies.

However, the introduction of Bitcoin spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) is beginning to attract additional capital to the crypto market, offsetting the slowdown in the Grayscale sell-off. Meanwhile, anticipation of the Bitcoin halving, scheduled for April 2024, is causing excitement in the market.
A recent survey by Bitget suggests optimistic investor sentiment regarding the upcoming Bitcoin halving. 84% of respondents worldwide believe Bitcoin will surpass its all-time high of $69,000 in the next bull market.
Bitcoin price predictions during the halving vary: over half expect it to be between $30,000 and $60,000, while about 30% expect it to exceed $60,000.
