In a move seen as a major relief to the cryptocurrency industry, UK authorities have facilitated a quick bailout for the UK arm of troubled Silicon Valley Bank through a private sector takeover deal that will allow HSBC, the UK subsidiary of the now-failed US -Bank to take over £1 ($1.2).
In a statement, UK Treasury Secretary Jeremy Hunt said the government and Bank of England had monitored the bank’s takeover and confirmed all customer deposits were protected under the deal. The statement also highlighted that the bailout was not taxpayer money and that the deal is expected to keep about 3,000 customers safe with £6.7 billion ($8.1 billion) in deposits.
