The CEO of Ripple with a very optimistic forecast for 2024

TL;DR

  • Brad Garlinghouse predicts that the crypto market could double in value this year, helped by pivotal events such as the US's first spot BTC ETF and the Bitcoin halving.
  • XRP's performance remains muted amid Ripple's ongoing legal battle with the SEC, with the outcome likely to significantly impact the asset's price volatility and future market dynamics.

Garlinghouse's prediction

The cryptocurrency sector has been booming since the start of the year, with Bitcoin (BTC) hitting a new all-time high of over $73,500 last month. Currently, the most important digital asset is trading at more than $72,000, while the global cryptocurrency market cap stands at $2.8 trillion (according to data from CoinGecko).

Many industry participants believe that the bull market is just beginning and expect new significant highs in the near future. An example is the CEO of Ripple – Brad Garlinghouse.

He expects the overall value of the crypto market to double this year, driven by major events such as the launch of the first spot BTC ETF in the US and the upcoming Bitcoin halving.

“I have been in this industry for a long time and have seen these trends come and go. I am very optimistic. I think the macroeconomic trends, the big picture like the ETFs, are driving real institutional money for the first time,” said the Ripple boss.

The BTC halving is scheduled to occur by the end of next week. This is an event that reduces the reward given to miners for validating new blocks on the blockchain, thereby reducing the time it takes to create new coins. A limited supply combined with increasing (or at least not decreasing) demand leads (according to the fundamentals of economics) to increasing prices.

“You see that this is driving demand, and at the same time demand is increasing while supply is decreasing. “You don’t have to be an economist to say what happens when supply constraints and demand increase,” Garlinghouse argued.

Historically, every halving (the event occurs approximately every four years) has been followed by a massive bull run for Bitcoin and the crypto market. However, the upcoming halving is a little different as the resurgence began months before the expected cut in miners' rewards.

Some have argued that this could lead to even bigger gains in the following months. Those who want to know more about the highly anticipated event can watch our special video below:

XRP price outlook

While most leading cryptocurrencies have enjoyed an impressive rally recently, Ripple's XRP still appears to be catching up. The price is currently at $0.60, down 2% monthly.

Many believe that the value of XRP will experience increased volatility after this the legal dispute between Ripple and the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is being clarified. A decisive victory by the company could lead to an uptick in investment, while the opposite scenario could hamper the industry's progress and lead to the introduction of strict rules.

The process between the parties is Sentence for April 23rd. Some may argue that Ripple has the upper hand, having won three important (but partial) court victories throughout 2023.
