The Bitcoin Ordinals team is creating a non-profit organization to advance protocol development

The team behind the Bitcoin Ordinals Protocol has created a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the development of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on Bitcoin (BTC).

The California-based nonprofit organization, called the Open Ordinals Institute, will strengthen the Ordinals protocol by providing funding to the team’s core developers, which includes the project’s pseudonymous main maintainer, Raph.

A total of four team members will serve on the board of the new non-profit organization; Raph, Bitcoin-focused podcast host Erin Redwing, an anonymous Ordinals developer known as Ordinally, and Ordinals creator Casey Rodarmor.

The Ordinals Protocol team is proud to announce the formation of the Open Ordinals Institute, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the growth and advancement of the Bitcoin Ordinals Protocol. Donations can be made on our website: https://t.co/H7ymKSL4VR

The Ordinals Protocol was created by Rodarmor in January. It quickly became one of the most popular crypto trends as users rushed to add assets to the Bitcoin blockchain, including NFTs and Bitcoin-based cryptocurrencies.

On May 28, Rodarmor resigned as Protocol’s main maintainer, passing the role to Raph.

I haven’t been able to give ord the attention it deserves, so I’m happy to report that @raphjaph has agreed to be the main maintainer!

Raph is an impoverished student and his work at Ord is funded entirely by donations. If you can, please consider making a donation!…

At 17:30 UTC on August 1, the total number of bitcoin ordinals surpassed 21 million, a promising milestone for users of the bitcoin network.

The team also launched the organization’s official website, Ordinals.org, where users can donate and see updates on project development.

According to the official website, all donations made to the institute will be tax-deductible for US taxpayers once the organization receives approval from the Internal Revenue Service, which is expected later this year.
