Tesla did not buy or sell Bitcoin in advance of the spot ETFs

Electric car maker Tesla (TSLA)'s Bitcoin (BTC) holdings remained flat in the fourth quarter of 2023, according to its latest earnings report released on Wednesday.

There was no mention of Bitcoin in the quarterly report, meaning the company did not buy or sell Bitcoin in the three months ending in September. The holdings are worth $387 million at current prices.

According to data collected by Bitcoin Treasuries, Tesla holds over 9,720 BTC and is the third-largest public holder of the asset behind software company MicroStrategy (MSTR) and mining company Marathon (MARA).

The Elon Musk-led company invested $1.5 billion in Bitcoin in February 2021, raising around 43,000 BTC. In the same month, Tesla announced that it would accept Bitcoin as a payment method.

However, the company began selling its shares later this year to maximize its liquidity position amid uncertainties surrounding the COVID lockdowns. In the second quarter of 2022, the company reported selling 75% of its Bitcoin holdings.
