SEC Officially Approves Spot Bitcoin ETFs, BTC Price Unfazed

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has officially granted approval to several spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

These ETFs will allow investors to gain exposure to Bitcoin without the complexities of owning it directly. The recognized trusts include the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust, the Bitwise Bitcoin ETF and the Hashdex Bitcoin ETF. As ETF analyst James Seyffart noted, the regulator has left no one behind.

This decision follows a thorough review process designed to ensure that these ETFs comply with the rules and regulations of the Exchange Act applicable to national securities exchanges.

“After careful consideration, the Commission concludes that the proposals are consistent with the Exchange Act and the rules and regulations applicable to a national securities exchange thereunder,” the SEC said.

The SEC has emphasized the importance of these ETFs in complying with standards designed to prevent fraudulent and manipulative acts and practices in order to protect investors and the public interest.

The approval of the spot ETFs is based on their trust in the surveillance measures of the exchanges on which these products are listed. They note a strong correlation between CME Bitcoin futures and spot Bitcoin markets, strengthening their ability to monitor for market manipulation and fraud.

The launch of these ETFs is expected to provide institutional and retail investors with a more accessible way to invest in Bitcoin.

Despite this important regulatory milestone, the price of Bitcoin has remained relatively stable. The flagship cryptocurrency is currently trading at $45,672.
