Presidential candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. owns up to $250,000 worth of Bitcoin (BTC).

According to recent financial disclosure forms, US Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. owns between $100,000 and $250,000 in Bitcoin (BTC).

The disclosure documents are at odds with what Kennedy said at the 2023 Bitcoin conference in May when he claimed he was not a BTC investor.

Dennis Kucinich, Kennedy’s campaign manager and himself a former congressman and presidential candidate, tells CNBC that Kennedy’s bitcoin purchase came after his remarks at the conference.

Kennedy first announced in April that he would be running as a Democrat in the 2024 presidential campaign. His party nomination is considered promising due to incumbent President Joe Biden’s decision to run for a second term.

According to poll data aggregator RealClearPolitics, Biden’s poll average for the Democratic nomination is about 64%, while Kennedy’s currently sits at 14.4%.

The environmental advocate made headlines in May when he announced that his presidential campaign would be the first in American history to accept Bitcoin donations.

Kennedy believes bitcoin can act as a bulwark against authoritarian censorship, and he has pledged to protect the right to bitcoin if he is elected president.

“As President, I will ensure that your right to use and own bitcoin is inviolable. Bitcoin is not only a bulwark against totalitarianism and the manipulation of our money supply, it also points the way to a future where government institutions are more transparent and democratic.”
