Decentralized exchanges (DEXs) have grown in popularity over the years amid growing concerns about privacy and mitigating hacking risks.
Launched in 2021, Orca (ORCA), a DEX powered by the Solana (SOL) blockchain, saw a significant price surge, hitting an all-time high of $22.30 in November 2021. The price of the ORCA token fell dramatically as investment sentiment took off shifted to risk aversion.
On July 21, the price had recovered from the June meltdown, with the coin trading at $0.95; however, still almost 96% below the peak.
The overall DEX market is highly competitive and several major players, such as Uniswap (UNI) and dYdX (DYDX), are the market leaders based on trading volume and market share.
With such fierce competition and a prevailing bear market, how will ORCA fare against its peers? Here we take a look at the coin’s price analysis and the latest Orca price prediction.
What is Orca (ORCA)?
Orca (ORCA) is a decentralized exchange launched in 2021 that uses an Automated Market Maker (AMM) and Fair Price Indicator to facilitate crypto token exchanges.
There are two types of cryptocurrency exchanges: standard order book and AMM exchanges. With order book exchanges, the exchange matches users who want to buy with those who want to sell corresponding amounts of tokens.
On AMM exchanges, users trade a pool of tokens rather than directly with others. AMM is a protocol-driven computer program that automates the process of providing liquidity on cryptocurrency trading platforms.
The Fair Price Indicator feature determines if the quoted price for a given trade is within 1% of the current market price on CoinGecko and if the slippage is less than 1%. When one of these checks is triggered, the user receives a price or slippage alert and is prompted to confirm or cancel the transaction.
To use Orca, users must first create a Solana wallet, and since Orca is a non-custodial exchange, users’ tokens are exchanged directly in and out of their wallets. Additionally, since Orca is built on the Solana blockchain, users must hold the native currency SOL in their wallets to pay network fees for each transaction.
In addition, Orca is a community-driven exchange. Users have a say in managing the protocol by staking their ORCA tokens in exchange for additional coin incentives.
Orca token news and price drivers
Orca has recently achieved several important milestones that could drive the ORCA token price in the future.
Introduction of the Whirlpool Builders program
Orca announced the Whirlpool Builders Program in May 2022 with a grant of up to $200,000 in ORCA tokens.
As part of this initiative, Orca provided aspiring programmers in Solana with funds to build applications on top of whirlpools, the company’s concentrated pools of liquidity.
This program was introduced to allow a broader group of users to concentrate liquidity and increase returns for liquidity providers (LPs) on swaps through efficient use of capital.
Introducing the Orcanauts NFT Collection
Orca launched the “Orcanauts” collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in November 2021 with 10,000 NFTs. The proceeds from the sale were split 3:1 between the foundation and the artist.
The Orca team anticipates that this project will only be the first step towards a broader Orcaverse, in which the project will explore the interplay between NFTs and decentralized finance (DeFi).
Orcas Fall Festival
Orca celebrated its first-ever “Fall Festival” of 2021 from September to October 2021 when the network increased its weekly rewards from 300,000 to 600,000 ORCA and established multiple double-dip pools.
These pools are based on aquafarms, farms where liquidity providers receive both ORCA tokens and trading fees as an incentive. Providers can also earn native tokens from partner projects.
First round of financing
In September 2021, Orca closed its first round of funding of $18 million. Polychain, Placeholder and Three Arrows were the companies leading the round and Orca also received investments from Jump Capital, Sino Global Capital, Collab & Currency, DeFiance, Zee Prime, Coinbase Ventures and Solana Capital.
“Orca’s AMM is an important addition to the Solana ecosystem. We are thrilled with the strength of the team, the achievement and their community-centric mission,” said Kyle Davies, co-founder of Three Arrows.
“Orca is not only responsive and affordable, but also fun to finance, with a joyful experience, community and a broader values-based mission. It’s teams like Orca that will bring crypto into the mainstream and redefine how we think about finance in our everyday lives,” said Placeholder partner Chris Burniske.
Broader cryptocurrency sentiment
The general mood in the cryptocurrency markets is also driving the ORCA coin. In 2022, cryptocurrencies are suffering from a bear market amid a broader shift towards risk aversion, recession fears, rising inflation and tighter monetary policy.
The deprecation of Terra Luna’s former algorithmic stablecoin and the ensuing Lunas Coin (LUNC) crash has spilled through cryptocurrency markets, fueling the bear case, with veterans like BTC and ETH plummeting over 50%.
ORCA/USD price analysis
According to CoinMarketCap data, the ORCA token experienced a significant uptrend shortly after launch. The coin’s price surged from $2.15 on August 10 to $12.37 on September 17, a 475% increase. However, the rally did not last and the price fell to $4.83 on September 18th.

This was followed by a sharp rise to $20.15 on Oct. 3, a 317% jump from the September low. However, the bears eventually gained control and the ORCA token bottomed at $9.15 on Oct. 12.
The general market sentiment turned bullish in October and Ethereum (ETH), the second largest cryptocurrency in the world by market cap, hit its all-time high of $4,891 on November 16, 2021.
The price action for the ORCA token remained bullish, hitting an all-time high of $22.30 on November 16th. After the peak, however, the price collapsed to $4.78 on Dec. 21, down almost 79%. It closed 2021 at $4.99.
The ORCA token price failed to gain significant momentum in early 2022 as the general market sentiment was bearish and its price dropped to $2.26 on Jan. 28.
The price action briefly turned bullish and the ORCA token hit $4.11 on Feb 1st. However, extreme uncertainty and a broader sell-off in cryptocurrencies sent the price down to $1.95 on March 15, down more than 52%.

Between March and June, the ORCA token traded in an extremely bearish market, falling to an all-time low of $0.35 on June 19. On July 22, the coin was trading at $0.9455 with a market cap of $19.7 million.
Orca Price Prediction: Targets for 2022, 2025 and 2030
If the bull market resumes, trading activity on both centralized and decentralized exchanges is likely to increase, which could benefit all the players involved, including Orca.
According to CoinCodex’s Orca coin price prediction based on technical analysis, the coin’s price could increase by 128% on July 22 and reach $2.15 by July 27, 2022.
Meanwhile, algorithm-based forecasters provided mixed long-term Orca crypto price predictions.

According to Price Prediction’s ORCA price prediction, it could average $1.16 in 2022 and $3.26 in 2025. Price Prediction’s Orca price prediction for 2030 suggested that the coin could reach $20.92.
When looking for ORCA forecasts, keep in mind that analyst and algorithm expectations can be wrong. They are based on technical analysis and historical price movements. Past performance is no guarantee of future results.
