The Ethereum-based Layer 2 blockchain protocol will welcome USDC stablecoin after a strategic partnership with Circle, the blockchain startup behind the token issuance. As Circle announced, the USDC that will be launched will be native to the Optimism ecosystem and will be considered the official format of the stablecoin.
Circle-USDC’s debut on Optimism doesn’t draw as much attention compared to the price action of the native OP token. At the time of writing, OP is changing hands at a price of $1.48 after posting a modest 0.58% gain over the past 24 hours amid a recent market plunge.
The Optimism token will be one of the biggest beneficiaries of the USDC integration as it will create more liquidity pools of decentralized applications that will see higher demand for the token in the near future. Over time, the integration could have a more positive impact and increase the overall OP price.
