Not only Robert Kennedy Jr.: US presidential candidate Francis Suarez enables donations for crypto campaigns

Robert Kennedy Jr. is no longer the only US presidential candidate to welcome crypto donations for his campaign.

Francis Suarez, the incumbent mayor of Miami and Republican presidential candidate, announced on Friday that he is accepting crypto donations.

The Suarez campaign website says it processes donations through crypto payment provider BitPay, which sells Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Dogecoin (DOGE), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC ) and Polygon supports (MATIC), Apecoin (APE) as well as the US dollar-pegged stablecoins Dai (DAI), Gemini Dollar (GUSD), Pax Dollar (USDP) and USD Coin (USDC) and the euro-pegged stablecoin Euro Coins (EUROC).

Suarez says of the decision to accept crypto:

“Cryptocurrency is and will be the future – America’s next president must seize this generational opportunity and not shy away from it.”

The politician is known as the mayor of Miami for his pro-crypto position. The southern Florida city launched its own decentralized altcoin MiamiCoin (MIA) in August 2021, and Suarez began accepting bitcoin paychecks that same year.

According to CoinGecko, MIA is down more than 99.5% from its all-time high of $0.0552 set in September 2021.

Kennedy announced that he would be accepting BTC donations while speaking at the Bitcoin 2023 conference in Miami in May. Environmental advocate challenges incumbent President Joe Biden for Democratic nomination.
