Mahindra University students’ NFT project focuses on polar bear conservation

Six technically adept and creative engineering students from Mahindra University, Hyderabad recently completed the Ice Bear Society, a rare, socially-driven NFT initiative that aims to raise awareness of ongoing global warming and how the resulting climate change has become a huge threat to polar bears in the Arctic.

This philanthropic NFT project is the brainchild of Rahul Arepaka, Rohit Gunnelly, Geha Reddy, Abhinav Challa, Satvik Kondra and Aaryan Sharma. While Challa and Sharma are third-year students of the CSE branch, the remaining four members of their core team are sophomores of the CSE, Engineering and AI branch.

The collection went live on April 5, 2022. Since launch, the project has built a strong community, attracting nearly 1500 people from different parts of the world including the United States, the Middle East, India, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, and Canada. The collection includes 3333 unique 3D rendered artworks generated by an Ice Bears based algorithm, with each NFT having its own metadata containing the unique number along with rarity and attributes of the Polar Bears NFT’s clothing. The Eisbär NFT is available in different collections such as Classic, Founders and Limited Edition.

In keeping with the core ethos of this project, this entire NFT project is built on Fantom Blockchain, one of the world’s most scalable, decentralized, and secure blockchain ecosystems. The base price for each of these NFTs is 33 FTM. They have also built a bridge to ensure a smooth transition from other blockchain platforms like Polygon, Ethereum, etc. by completing the transaction through a Metamask wallet. 33 percent of the proceeds generated during this auction go towards polar bear welfare and protection through their collaboration with polar bear organizations.

NFT technology has the potential to bring about tremendous change around the world. Up to now it has mainly been used to make fortunes for a select few, but we all believe that this technology has a higher purpose. Ice Bear Society’s vision for the future is to work with more Indian brands and involve artists, fashion designers and eminent figures to continue spreading the word about climate change and its importance to our planet and all the underarm species that live here.

To further expand the scope of Ice Bear Society, the students have collaborated with renowned Telugu film director Tharun Bhascker, Indian stylist Neeraja Kona, numerologist Sheelaa M Bajaj and model Liudmyla Tkachenko. Additionally, they have also partnered with Hoodoi.com, Umbria Network – DeFi and NFT Garage.
