Joliette’s Agro-100 strengthens and enriches its innovative R&D department with the arrival of a future PhD in Environmental Sciences
JOLIETTE, QC, October 12, 2022 /CNW Telbec/ – Agro-100 is pleased to announce this William Overbeek has joined its R&D department. William already has a Masters of Science in Plant Biology with a focus on soil microbiomes and their relationship to field activity and is currently pursuing his PhD in Environmental Sciences with a focus on microbial life at the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM). Mr. Overbeek’s PhD thesis focuses on strategies to mitigate soil degradation in no-till crops by reducing herbicide use and increasing soil quality and yields.

“The arrival of Mr. Overbeek brings tremendous added value to the R&D team. We will use the globally applicable knowledge he has acquired to shape our range of practical and strategic tools needed to support the day-to-day work of agricultural producers,” he said Pierre Migner, director of Agro-100 – product development and agronomic training. “William also runs the family farm growing corn, soybeans and wheat on more than 1,100 acres in Montérégie, Qc. This brings the benefit of his exceptional field knowledge.”
A graduate of McGill University and recipient of the Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQNT) Nature, the Technology Master’s Scholarship, and the Alexander Graham Bell Canada Graduate Scholarships-Doctoral Program (CGS-D), among other awards, Mr. Overbeek is described by his peers as a passionate visionary of agriculture of tomorrow. He is also leading a research project on mixed crop cultivation using a carrier drone, particularly in soybean cultivation.

Mr. Migner concluded by stating that the next generation of research and development is perfectly secured at Agro-100, which now includes the expertise of three PhD students. Agro-100 has been a leader in the fertilizer industry since 1990.
