Joe Biden's cryptic Super Bowl tweet wasn't about Bitcoin – or was it?

Actually, it's not that complicated: The President of the United States posted a tweet that some people believe is a tacit admission that he orchestrated a sting operation to rig the Super Bowl, all with the goal of killing an influential pop star winning over, which is supposedly the key to his re-election campaign.

And yet the Bitcoin maximalists can’t help but see the whole thing through them.

Let's go back. Shortly after the Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl last night, President Joe Biden – or, more likely, a team of meme-savvy aides – briefly shocked the internet by tweeting a picture of the 81-year-old commander in chief with his eyes glowing devilishly red, next to the Headline: “Exactly how we thought it would be.”

The tongue-in-cheek post was almost certainly a sarcastic reference to an emerging right-wing conspiracy theory that posited last week that Biden could rig the Super Bowl in the Chiefs' favor in order to curry favor with Chiefs' girlfriend Taylor Swift, tight end Travis Kelce – and possibly earn the musician award powerful confirmation.

The bright red eyes in the post referred to the so-called “Dark Brandon” Meme that began in 2022 to adopt iconography from conservative circles with the (again cheeky) intention of portraying Biden as far more empowered and powerful than May hit the eye.

But what it was like well documentedConservative internet culture and crypto internet culture have many roots in common – and it didn't take long for some Bitcoin enthusiasts to adopt Biden's cryptic post as a cautionary tale intended for them, rather than conservative conspiracy theorists.

In crypto circles bright red eyes also have a special meaning: they signify an enlightened awareness of the importance of Bitcoin for the next chapter of humanity. Bitcoin maximalists like Michael Saylor And Caitlin Long have long incorporated “laser eyes” into their Twitter profiles to signal their evolution into all-powerful followers of the Bitcoin gospel.

As fate would have it, Bitcoin skyrocketed in the hours following Biden's tweet over $50,000 for the first time since 2021. Drunk on this good news, some crypto traders jokingly (or perhaps very seriously) attributed the price action to a covert Biden operation designed to boost Bitcoin, rather than the Chiefs.

The complicated layers of irony and ambiguity activated by the extremely online Stunt soon reached such insane heights that – whether people in crypto Strictly speaking They thought that Biden was trying to send disguised messages to Bitcoin maxis, or not – others seemed genuinely convinced that crypto users really believed they were in a plot with the American president.

What is the truth? Did Biden manipulate the biggest sporting event of the year? Is he solely responsible for the rise of BTC?

This reporter will not comment on such sensitive issues. However, he will point out that the answers are unlikely to be found on Twitter.
