Days after talks about a possible Bitcoin [BTC] Drive to $31,000 gained momentum, the price of the crypto fell sharply. At press time, the king coin, which had posted a 79% rise according to year-to-date (YTD) performance, had lost value. It traded at $27,337 on the charts.

No sleep for a long time

Bitcoin’s recent price drop has prompted a surge in activity from previously dormant wallets. In fact, on April 20, Lookonchain reported the reactivation of a nine-year-old wallet.

After that, the pseudonymous on-chain activity tracker famous for Twitter revealed that another wallet was doing the same. This time it was a 10 year old wallet that was transferred to three separate wallets.

While the motive behind these moves is largely unknown, there is speculation that these holders transferred some wealth to take profits. In other circles, some thought the action was a safety precaution to avoid wallet draining.

On April 18, an anonymous account informed the crypto community about a wallet wipe operation that has been going on since 2014. Although the user mentioned that they could not identify the source of the compromise, it advised long-time holders to split their assets or move holdings.

Aside from the possibility of a withdrawal, the leading cryptocurrency has also been tarnished with one sharp drop in volume. This prompted investors to raise concerns about the overall health of the market.

Accordingly CoinMarketCapThe global crypto market cap has fallen by 2.97% in the last 24 hours. And a prime suspect in that drop is volume, which is down to $44.99 billion — down a whopping 14.29% over the same period.

Dealing with the presence of the Reds

The drop in market cap indicated that some smaller assets were outperforming BTC and most of the broader market was suffering from a lack of liquidity. Consequently, this led to a decrease in bitcoins market dominance.

Meanwhile, bitcoin supply has increased on exchanges, despite a number of moves into self-custody in the past.

This means that quite a number of investors have sent their wealth to platforms to take profits or count their losses. Such a scenario could set the stage for heightened selling pressures as FX outflows ease.
