Google’s new crypto advertising policy increases the visibility of Bitcoin ETFs

Google, a subsidiary of technology giant Alphabet, is about to make a significant policy update, set to take effect on January 29, that could change the landscape of cryptocurrency advertising.

After the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved 11 spot Bitcoin ETFs (BTC) on January 10, Google is expected to change its rules and allow asset managers to introduce these products to a wider US audience.

This move follows Google's recent decision to expand its policies for cryptocurrencies and related products and now provide advertisers with specific guidelines for promoting what it calls “cryptocurrency coin trusts.”

Advertisers looking to use Google's platform, known for its wide reach and high search volume, must now become certified to ensure compliance with the tech giant's strict requirements.

The significance of this development is underscored by the conversion of the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) into a spot Bitcoin ETF, as well as the sanctioning of 10 other institutions to include spot BTC ETFs in their investment portfolios.

Crypto analysts are optimistic about the impact of this policy change on the digital currency space, as Google processes around 8.55 billion searches daily, according to DemandSage.

Can Google Ads tip the scales for Bitcoin ETFs?

The crypto community speculates that the increased visibility of Bitcoin ETFs via Google's advertising platform could significantly increase awareness and investment in the space.

Reports are circulating that Google will change its policies and allow #BitcoinETF ads starting January 29th.

Therefore, companies operating in the spot Bitcoin ETF market could potentially see a significant influx of interest from new segments of the public – not just experienced day traders or investors.

The update could also signal a shift in the way cryptocurrency products are promoted, ensuring ads comply with legal requirements and are presented responsibly to an engaged audience.

Google's policy change comes at the right time. The crypto market has seen fluctuating investor sentiment towards spot Bitcoin ETFs over the past week.

On January 24, Bitcoin ETFs saw inflows of about $270 million, offset by significant outflows – most notably for Grayscale Investment's Bitcoin ETF – resulting in a net outflow of around $153 million.

The trend did not improve, and the streak of withdrawals continued on January 25, marking the fourth consecutive day of net outflows in the last week, totaling up to $80 million, particularly from those reported by the SEC recognized funds.

Despite these challenging dynamics, crypto commentators believe that Google's policy change could potentially open doors for a flood of new investors. The increased visibility and imposed certification could offset recent outflows from spot Bitcoin ETFs and signal a possible recovery as we get closer to the policy implementation date of January 29th.
