Franklin Templeton CEO says she's seen Bitcoin demand around the world and is touting a “range” of opportunities in crypto
According to Jenny Johnson, president and chief executive of global investment giant Franklin Templeton, the perception of Bitcoin (BTC) as a safe haven provides a price floor for the top cryptocurrency.
Johnson says in a new interview with CNBC that demand for BTC is evident following the launch of new spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs).
Franklin Templeton's BTC ETF was one of 11 applications approved by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) last week.
The CEO also notes that he sees Bitcoin as just “one of many” opportunities in the blockchain space, citing the company's decision to launch the first U.S.-registered investment fund to use a public blockchain to process transactions and used to record share ownership.
Johnson says the ETFs will open up access to BTC, but also points out that people are using the top crypto asset as a hedge to maintain “a price floor.”
“One of the things that made me a believer was that I traveled around the world and talked to people…” I had someone who said, “I keep 50% of my savings in Bitcoin because if I stay in my “If I say the wrong thing, my assets could be confiscated.”
I remember a conversation with someone in Israel who said, “All of my parents' assets and their parents' assets have been confiscated.” They keep some of it [their savings] So in Bitcoin there is a fear component that is almost seen as an insurance or security component. But I also think it’s really important to nurture the next real opportunity in this blockchain world.”
