Dogecoin (DOGE) Explodes 8% Daily, Bitcoin (BTC) Continues to Trade Sideways (Weekend Watch)

Bitcoin's uncharacteristic lack of volatility continues as the asset failed to break above $41,500 over the weekend.

Most altcoins are also quite sluggish at the moment, with ETH, SOL, XRP, BNB and ADA seeing slight gains.

BTC’s stagnation continues

Last week's ETF approvals came amid increased volatility that caused BTC to rise and fall by several thousand dollars. The peak came on Thursday when the products hit US financial markets and Bitcoin shot to a 21-month high of $49,000.

However, hours later, all gains were wiped out and there was another decline to $41,500 on Friday evening. When Saturday came, the cryptocurrency recouped some of its losses and was around $43,000. There has been very little actual price movement since then.

In fact, BTC has remained at and below this level for about the past week. This weekend was also quite uneventful as the asset struggled to clear the $42,000 mark.

Its market cap remains just over $815 billion and its dominance over alts is well below 50%.

DOGE takes the main stage

Most alternative coins were also sluggish during the same weekly period. The last 24 hours have brought minor gains to larger names such as ETH, SOL, XRP, BNB, ADA, DOT and TRX – all up around 1%.

Avalanche, Toncoin and Polygon are each up about 3%. However, Dogecoin has taken the main stage with an 8% increase. As a result, the OG Meme coin is currently above $0.085.

Companies such as Ronin, PYTH, SC and ASTR achieved further growth with double-digit increases.

The total crypto market cap has erased yesterday's losses and is up to $1.640 trillion at CMC.
