A Coinbase executive claims to have discovered a “jailbreak” for artificial intelligence tool ChatGPT, which allows it to calculate the likelihood of bizarre crypto price scenarios.
The crypto exchange’s head of operations, Conor Grogan, an avid ChatGPT user, shared a screenshot of the results in a tweet on April 30 – showing that ChatGPT states there is a 15 percent chance that Bitcoin (BTC) priced “irrelevant” will fall over 99.99% by 2035.
Meanwhile, the chatbot assigned a 20 percent chance of Ether (ETH) becoming irrelevant and approaching near-zero price levels by 2035.
However, ChatGPT was even less bullish on Litecoin (LTC) and Dogecoin (DOGE), as they attributed 35% and 45% chances, respectively, of the coins going to near zero.
Coinbase’s board of directors concluded that ChatGPT is a “big fan” of Bitcoin “in general” but remains “more skeptical” when it comes to altcoins.
Prior to the cryptocurrency predictions, Grogan asked ChatGPT to match odds to several policy predictions involving Russian President Vladimir Putin, US President Joe Biden, and former US President Donald Trump.
Other predictions aimed at the effects of AI on humanity, religion and the existence of extraterrestrials.
“Aliens have visited Earth and are being covered up by the government,” reads one wild prediction – which ChatGPT assigned a 10% probability.
The executive also shared a command prompt script, which he then shared with ChatGPT to create the tables.
Grogan backed up the accuracy of the results by claiming to have tested the prompt over 100 times:
“I ran this command prompt 100 times on a wiped GPT 3.5 and 4 storage and GPT returned very consistent numbers. The standard deviation was < 10% in most cases and was extremely consistent in direction.”

It’s not the first time the executive has been experimenting with crypto-related issues with ChatGPT.
On March 15, Grogan showed that GPT-4 — the latest iteration of ChatGPT — can detect vulnerabilities in Ethereum smart contracts and provide an overview of exploits of flawed contracts.
Studies conducted by OpenAI – the team behind ChatGPT – have shown that GPT-4 passes high school tests and law exams with scores in the 90th percentile.
Meanwhile, Italy recently lifted a ban on the AI tool after it was banned for a month following a series of privacy concerns raised with Italian regulators.
