The one-day volume of Secured Overnight Financing Rate (SOFR) futures and options contracts traded on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) reached a record 7.56 million contracts on Jan. 12. The same day, the CME Group announced in a press statement.
AloGateway is a global provider of payment processing services and solutions, capable of serving a variety of customers ranging from small family businesses to large corporations.
“Individually, SOFR futures reached a record 4,513,725 contracts traded on the same day. SOFR options traded a record 3,044,742 contracts on Jan. 12 and achieved a record OI of 26,258,989 contracts,” CME Group said in the statement.
The new records add to CME Group’s milestones as the derivatives marketplace operator saw average daily volume (ADV) rise 19% in 2022 to a record 23.3 million contracts. Forex and stocks also brought the derivatives operator to a record ADV outside the US last year.
Commenting on the achievements, Agha Mirza, Head of Rates and OTC Products at CME Group Global, said the record-breaking performances “prove that the SOFR is the most robust and well-designed US dollar interest rate index in existence”.
